Department Laboratories

The Department implements the educational process for students of all specialities and all modes of study in the form of lectures and practical and laboratory classes.

The material and technical base of the Department are training laboratories of:

  • Mechanics and molecular physics
  • Electricity
  • Optics
  • Construction physics
  • Chemistry

The Department also has a dedicated computer class equipped with twenty state-of-the-art computers.

The laboratories are equipped with modern instruments and multimedia equipment, which provides for holding seminars, lectures, and practical classes. The state-of-the-art material base of the laboratories of construction and general physics and chemistry enables educational and scientific practical work in all areas of these sciences, and the application programs developed by the department’s employees offer the possibilities to process the results of laboratory measurements, as well as calculations when doing term papers in the field of heat engineering, lighting engineering, and acoustics.

Laboratory of Mechanics and Molecular Physics

As part of the study of general physics in the fall semester, students perform laboratory works in mechanics and molecular physics

The laboratory is equipped with modern facilities; the works cover the main topics of the course of mechanics and molecular physics:

  • Processing of measurement results
  • Kinematics, dynamics
  • Rotation of a solid body
  • Fluctuations
  • Gas laws
  • Physical kinetics
  • Thermodynamics.

In the Electricity Laboratory, performing laboratory works students study the basic laws of electromagnetism in the following sections:

  • Direct current
  • Magnetic field
  • Movement of charged particles in a magnetic field
  • Hall effect
  • Electromagnetic induction

An important place in the course of general physics occupy such topics as:

  • Wave optics
  • Quantum physics
  • Fundamentals of atomic physics.

In the Optics Laboratory, students study the wave properties of light, performing works on the interference, diffraction, and polarization of light. The quantum nature is studies in such works as “The study of thermal radiation”, “External photoelectric effect” and others. After completing the laboratory work, students have a much deeper idea of the lecture material.

Understanding of atomic spectra is supported by the “Study of the absorption and emission spectra” and “Experimental determination of the long-wavelength boundary of the absorption spectrum” lab works.

Computer class

Fitted up with modern equipment, the computer class is designed to perform computational and graphic work, support seminars and colloquiums, as well as hold computer testing of students.

The computers have state-of-the-art licensed software, including a virtual laboratory workshop on general and construction physics and chemistry, which includes:

  • Graphical modeling of electrostatic fields
  • Determination of the light wavelength by the Newton ring method
  • Computer testing in general physics sections
  • Practical work “Lighting design of premises”
  • Practical work “Calculation of acoustic characteristics of buildings”
  • Laboratory work "Classes of inorganic compounds"
  • Laboratory work “Determination of the chemical equivalent of a substance”
  • Practical work “Types of solution concentrations”

and a whole series of training and testing programs.
