Goals and objectives

The main goals and objectives: of the Department embrace educational process, scientific and educational work, and training of scientific and pedagogical personnel.

The staff and teachers of the Department have always actively supported and design and production organizations to solve urgent problems of civil engineering in the country, participated in the construction of the major structures, the development of new cities and such areas as the Far North, East and West Siberia, and the Far East. Leading scientists of our world-known department made a significant contribution to the progress of domestic foundation engineering, soil mechanics, and trained thousands of qualified civil engineers.

The Department constantly cooperates in the scientific and technical fields with the foremost geotechnical firms of St. Petersburg: ZAO Geostroy, OOO Geoizol, OAO LenNIIproekt, LenZNIIEP, LenSpetsSMU, LEK and such foreign companies as NTC, Geotech AB, Fundex, Bauer, U-TEX, etc.

The Department has trained 180 candidates and 14 doctors of engineering. At different times, seven honored workers of science and technology of the RSFSR and the Russian Federation worked at the Department.
