Practical information


Most incoming international students will need a student visa to study in Russia.

Step 1. Contact International Relations Office to find out about the procedure and documents needed for your study visa. SPbGASU will provide you with the invitation for the study visa. Please bear in mind that study visa invitations are issued by the Migration Service and it can take up to 1 month to get an electronic study visa invitation.

Step 2. Student visas are obtained through the Russian Embassy (Consular Department), Russian Consulate or visa application centers in your country of residence. Check and find the one you need to apply to and collect all the documents needed for your visa

Step 3. Receive the electronic visa invitation to your e-mail and apply for your visa to the correspondent Embassy/Consulate or visa centre. Bear in mind that visa issuing process can take up to 2-3 weeks.

Step 4. Your visa is ready! Please proceed with your travel arrangements and be in touch with International Relations Office to help you out.

All foreign citizens must have a health insurance covering their whole stay in Russia. The insurance program must include emergency situations. If you haven’t obtained the insurance policy when applying for your visa SPbGASU International Relations Office will help you acquire a health policy upon arrival.


Exchange students may study Russian language as part of their program at the Department of Russian Language to boost their knowledge of Russian. Department of Russian Language has been welcoming and teaching international students for more than 70 years. You will have a great time with our professional team both improving your Russian and discovering all the amazing things that Saint Petersburg has to offer.


To make your study planning easier we have made an approximate estimation of the daily life expenditures in Saint Petersburg:

Accommodation: €50 (SPbGASU Dormitory) – € 400 per month depending on your living style

Food: €100–€300 per month

Mobile service: €5 – €10 per month (depending on the services used)

Metro/bus: a single trip –38 – 55 rub. (extra discounts for students and special metro card holders)


SPbGASU offers you a modern comfortable canteen and multiple cafeterias on campus. Here you will find a diverse menu for a reasonable price.


You can get around Saint Petersburg by public transport (metro, buses, trolleybuses and trams) and by private commercial transport (buses, minibuses and taxis).

SPbGASU dormitory is situated on the address Pereulok Boitsova, 5


Book a taxi via Yandex.Taxi, Taxovichkof or Uber Russia. It will cost around 700 rubles. It is not recommended to accept the services of taxi drivers waiting near the exit and at the bus stops outside the terminal.

To connect to the internet, you can purchase a SIM card from one of mobile phone stores at the airport.


Take a bus (39, 39Э or K39 minibus) to Moskovskaya metro station. Get from Moskovskaya to Sennaya Ploschad (or other station you need) on the subway. Then walk to the dormitory Pereulok Boitsova, 5 to get to the dormitory (15 minutes).
