Head of the SPbGASU Department of Metal and Timber Constructions, Head of the Expert Council of the Wooden House Construction Association, DSc in Engineering Aleksandr Chernykh made a presentation at the round table on the development of wooden multi-storey housing construction. The discussion was organized by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Utilities of Russia on 23 November at the Center for Interaction and Communications in Construction.

The round table was attended by Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Public Utilities Sergey Muzychenko, representatives of the Federal Scientific and Technical Certification Center in Construction, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Wooden House Construction Association, Segezha Group companies, SPbGASU and St Petersburg Polytechnic University.

The discussion focused on improving the regulatory framework for the widespread use of wooden structures in construction and the implementation of a roadmap for the development of wooden housing construction for the period up to 2024, ways to remove barriers for the accelerated development of high-rise wooden housing construction (up to 12 floors).

Aleksandr Chernykh, having analyzed the Russian regulatory framework for wooden structures, made proposals for its development based on the materials of the research work carried out by the SPbGASU Department of MTC under a contract with the Federal Center for Rationing, Standardization and Technical Conformity Assessment in Construction (FAI FCS).

✔ According to the SPbGASU representative, despite the significant positive changes in the creation of regulatory and technical documents for the advanced development of wooden construction based on modern building materials from engineered wood, which have occurred in the past 15 years, a significant lag behind foreign practice remains. It is required to correct existing and develop new regulatory documents based on research and development work in promising areas of wooden construction. It is necessary to improve the quality of regulatory and technical documentation in demand in the industry, taking into account the best domestic practices.

Research work, according to Aleksandr Chernykh, should have a systemic nature and appropriate deadlines. Three-year planning would make it possible to involve qualified specialists in solving the problem, organize problem laboratories in universities of the construction profile and, accordingly, would contribute to raising the level of scientific and technical activity. FAI FCS is expedient to create a repository of scientific works with access for scientists by subscription.
