Using virtual reality glasses, visitors to the SPbGASU booth could plunge into a highly detailed virtual environment that simulates the Smart Labor training ground. The training ground is being built in Krasnoye Selo near St. Petersburg on the basis of the SPbGASU training center and is intended for safety training in civil engineering.

Two Russian universities are participating in the construction of the Smart Labor training ground: SPbGASU and A.S. Pushkin Leningrad State University and two Finnish universities: LAB University of Applied Sciences and the University of Applied Sciences of Southeast Finland. The work is carried out within the framework of the SAFECON International Project, a part of the Cross-border Cooperation Program “Russia - South-East Finland 2014–2020,” and is funded by the European Union, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Finland.

The SAFECON project is implemented with the support of the St. Petersburg Committee on Labor and Employment. The virtual layout of the Smart Labor training ground was prepared by the strategic partner of the SAFECON project, the National Association of Builders (NOSTROY).

within the framework of the forum, a round table on “Features of the activity of a labor safety specialist. Interaction with employers and supervisory authorities” was organized on February 27. Kirsi Tayvalantti, Dean of the Faculty of Technology at LAB University of Applied Sciences, and Vitaly Tsaplin, Head of the Department of Technosphere Safety, spoke about the tasks of the Smart Labor training ground.

As said by the SPbGASU delegate, traditional teaching aids are not efficient enough and do not give a complete picture of the consequences of dangerous behavior in a given situation. Studying at the Smart Work training ground, students can clearly see the results of possible errors and master safety skills.

Nine interactive training modules on the most traumatic types of construction work will be installed at the training ground, as well as a state-of-the-art computer class with 30 seats.

On the same day, at the round table on “Urban studies as a new niche in the labor market”, Svetlana Danilova, associate professor at the Department of the Design of Architectural Environment, presented the urban improvement projects developed at the university that have already been implemented in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, as well as final qualification works of department students. In addition, she shared her experience in project management in the field of settlement improvement and spoke about technological innovations in this area.

“The urban environment affects people’s perception and is an important factor in the quality of life. Training in urban studies and urban improvement should take place in practical environment, since this is the only way to test the effectiveness of various approaches. As part of an agreement on cooperation between the university and the government of the Leningrad Region, we study the expectations of citizens on the quality of their living environment; on the basis of these surveys, SPbGASU students create actual projects during their studies. These projects are implemented in the cities and towns of the region,” said Svetlana Danilova.

This year, the main topic of the St. Petersburg International Labor Forum was the human resourcing of national projects. Through its active participation in such a significant event, SPbGASU once again confirmed that it seeks to structure the educational process in accordance with current market needs.
