On February 10, Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering hosted the forum events bringing together students from Gymnasium No. 3 in Derbent (Republic of Dagestan), Yakutsk Cadet Boarding School (Yakutia) and secondary school No. 45 of Prokopyevsk (Kemerovo region).

In the framework of the forum, intellectual competitions in general education subjects were organized within the walls of the university. The aim was to measure the participants’ level of knowledge based on the results of the first half of the academic year. The competitions covered five areas: technical subjects, humanities and socio-economic disciplines, philology and medicine.

“I came from Siberia. As I am planning to apply to one of the universities in Saint Petersburg, the visits organized within the forum programme are very important and useful for me. I am going to dedicate my life to design or architecture. I took part in the competition in the technical field, and it was not difficult for me”, told school student Albina Rakhmatullina.

A rich programme of activities awaited the forum participants at SPbGASU. They visited the laboratory for mechanical testing of building structures, where Yelizaveta Bryl, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Forensics and Law in Construction and Transport, demonstrated how to correctly take fingerprints, and told about the student life at SPbGASU. In addition, two master classes were organized for the participants: “One day in the life of a car driver” and a drawing lesson. During the first class, the schoolchildren together with Associate Professor Igor Chernyaev, Head of the Department of Transport Maintenance, developed a route and carried out the engine diagnostics and scanning. In the course of the art class, participants painted the evening sky. Using the prepared templates, they depicted views of Saint Petersburg.

“This is not the first time we are taking part in the forum: in 2015 we brought children from different schools in Derbent and they performed successfully. This year, 12 children from our gymnasium have come to Saint Petersburg to participate in the event. The executive secretary of the Admissions Office informed them about the university enrollment procedures and rules, and this information was really important, since many of our pupils want to choose architectural and economic fields of study. We will recommend them to apply to SPbGASU. We love Saint Petersburg – it is a beautiful and hospitable city. It is a pleasure to be a student here”, said Galmira Yusufova, a mathematics teacher at Gymnasium No. 3 in Derbent.

We will be glad to see the forum participants as well as applicants from other countries among our students!
