Youth Global Energy Development Forecast: SPbGASU team is among the competition winners

On 12 September, participants of the competition “Youth Global Energy Development Forecast” in the categories for students and young professionals defended their projects in an online format. The competition is organized by Nadezhnaya Smena Foundation. Following the results of presenting the projects, the SPbGASU team “ECO-Builders” became one of the three winners in the student category.

✔ The objective of the competition is to involve young specialists and students of field-specific universities in the formation of an international youth community of the fuel and energy complex, to promote engineering and technical education and the development of new technologies.

The competition is supported by the Russian Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, non-profit organisation ‘Russia – Land of Opportunities’, National Technology Initiative Competence Centre for Big Data Storage and Analysis at Moscow State University and Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, as well as leading companies of the fuel and energy complex. Teams from 42 universities have taken part in the event.

Besides SPbGASU, the teams of St. Petersburg Mining University and St. Petersburg Polytechnic University are among the winners. Best teams in the Young Professionals category represent Gazprom Neft PJSC, Neftisa Oil Company and JSC “SO UES” (System Operator of the Unified Energy System).

Members of “ECO-Builders” were SPbGASU students Yegor Ilyin (team captain), Anna Belova, Dmitry Blinov, Elizaveta Bystrova, Boris Golubev, Denis Izhorsky, Kristina Klubnikina, Kirill Kopylov, Arina Miklyaeva, Timur Sukhov, Artemy Taranov, Snezhana Tarasova, Vladislav Tikkoev, Anna Fedorova and Alexey Chechetka from the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services. Under the supervision of Viktor Yakovlev, Associate Professor at the Department of Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation, they prepared a case study on the future of hydrogen energy. The participants analysed the technology, its development prospects and boundaries of application, and made a conclusion about its economic efficiency.

The winning teams have been invited to an award ceremony in Moscow. In addition, they will take part in the overall youth forecast, which will be presented to the Ministry of Energy’s top management during the international forum "Russian Energy Week" on October 15.

"ECO-builders" are sure that participation in the competition has been a really valuable experience.

"Undoubtedly, it was interesting. Such events prove once again that everything is in our hands and we should not be afraid of anything. I believe we are helping new technologies emerge," said Arina Miklyaeva.

"Such competitions not only contribute to the emergence of new technological trends, but also give us, students, a new way of looking at things and involve us in solving important tasks for our country, show the significance of our opinions and as a result lead to forming an active civil position," Kristina Klubnikina thinks.
