Associate Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Structural Physics, Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering Yulia Leontyeva acted as an expert in the “Telecourier” program on the “78” TV channel. In one of the houses on Mirgorodskaya Street in St Petersburg, violations of the humidity conditions of technical rooms (basements) led to the collapse of part of the stairs of the first floor and the plaster layer in common areas.

Yulia Nikolaevna gave the following expert assessment and recommendations: “The dampness in the basement arose due to closed vents. The basement is not ventilated, so for most of the year there is water in the basement, it is damp and wet. As a result, there was condensation on metal structures and mold on risers. The wooden structures of the stairs are exposed, which means that the wood begins to rot and the stairs become unsafe during use.

Recommendations: open the vents and inspect the flights of stairs for the load-bearing capacity of the stringers and the integrity of the filling of the seams between the set steps.”
