On 1 June, Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural Design at our university, member of the Union of Architects of Russia, Honorary Worker of Education of the Russian Federation, Professor of the International Academy of Architecture, member of the Interregional Public Organization for the Promotion of Architectural Education, the European Association for Research and Cooperation in Urban Planning and Architecture, Associate Professor, PhD of Architecture Fedor Viktorovich Perov celebrates his 70th birthday.
Fedor Viktorovich was born in Leningrad. In 1979, he graduated from the Leningrad Civil Engineering Institute (LISI, as our university was then known), with which he subsequently became inextricably linked in his professional, creative, and teaching careers.
Fedor Viktorovich began his professional career at the Leningrad Zonal Research Institute of Standard and Experimental Design (LenZNIIEP), where he worked in A. Sh. Tyvyan's studio. There, he rose from architect to deputy head of the Northern Architecture Department under Yu. N. Lobanov. During these years, he participated in the development of residential and public complexes for the country's northern regions, including a complex of sectional residential buildings with integrated service facilities in Nadym, as well as competitive designs for leisure centers for cities in northern Tyumen.
In 1986, Fedor Viktorovich defended his PhD thesis under the scientific supervision of Yuri Nikolaevich Lobanov.
The architect's professional worldview was significantly influenced by international internships at the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture, the architectural companies Akropolis-Arkitekten and KPS GROUP, and the University of Maryland (USA).
Since 1992, Fedor Viktorovich has been engaged in a personal design practice. In 1998, he founded the creative studio Petropolis-Architecture LLC, which has developed and implemented over 50 projects. Among his most notable works are the reconstruction of residential buildings on Kamenny Island, apartment hotel complexes in Repino and Serovo, the Konstantinovskoye and Georgievskoye residential complexes, the Samson Hotel in Peterhof, the reconstruction of the Katharsis office complex, the water park on Krestovsky Island, the competition concept for Pulkovo-3 Airport, the Okhta Center sports and fitness complex, the innovative business center in Bugry, and other projects.
Fedor Viktorovich's work is particularly focused on the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. He has been involved with the SPbGASU School of Architecture for over 40 years. Since 1996, he has directed the training workshop of the Department of Architectural Design, setting professional benchmarks for new generations of architects.
From 2013 to 2022, Fedor Viktorovich headed the Department of Architectural Design, and from 2016 to 2021, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, devoting considerable attention to the development of educational programs, strengthening the creative and professional ties of the SPbGASU School of Architecture, and supporting student initiatives and competitive activities.
The final qualifying works of graduates, prepared under the supervision of Fedor Viktorovich, have repeatedly received awards at international and all-Russian competitions, including those organized by the Moscow Regional Association of Architectural and Architectural Research (MOOSAO), the Zodchestvo festival, the Golden Trezzini award, the Architecton competition, and the Lazar Khidekel International Competition.
Today, Fedor Viktorovich Perov serves as the Academic Secretary of Dissertation Council 24.2.380.02, established at our university (specializing in "Theory and History of Architecture, Restoration and Reconstruction of Historical and Architectural Heritage," "Architecture of Buildings and Structures. Creative Concepts of Architectural Activity," and "Urban Planning and Rural Settlement Planning"). He is actively involved in training research staff and supervises PhD students. Three PhD dissertations in architecture have been defended under his academic supervision.
His contribution to the preservation and understanding of the traditions of architectural education is also significant. Fedor Viktorovich is the head of the authors' teams for the publications "SPbGASU Architectural School," "SPbGASU Architectural School. Architectural Design," and "Arctic. SPbGASU." The book "SPbGASU Architectural School. Architectural Design" was awarded a silver badge at the Zodchestvo-2024 International Architecture Festival and a diploma from the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences in 2025.
For his many years of fruitful work, Fedor Viktorovich Perov was awarded the title of "Honored Worker in the Sphere of Education of the Russian Federation," the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the "Civil Engineer of SPbGASU" badge, and received gratitude from the Governor of St Petersburg and relevant committees of the city administration.
