On 11 October, an interuniversity olympiad in geodesy and geoinformatics took place at the A. F. Mozhaysky Military Space Academy in St Petersburg. The team from the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering secured second place. Students also achieved success in the individual competition, with Veronika Obryazhayeva winning a silver medal.

The SPbGASU team performed under the name “Meridian”. It includes team captain Margarita Lapshina, Anastasia Vorobyova, Milena Rodriguez, Sergey Zhukov and Elmir Golubev.

Participants were required to demonstrate their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of geodesy. The competition involved taking measurements, processing the collected data, and solving professional tasks that demanded precision, attentiveness, and effective teamwork. The challenges included performing resection and establishing a traverse.

The team’s successful performance was the result not only of the students’ individual preparation, but also of their ability to work together, make prompt decisions, and effectively organize performing tasks.

The result achieved by Veronika Obryazhayeva, who took second place in the individual competition, deserves special attention. Her accomplishment serves as further confirmation of the high level of preparation of the participants representing SPbGASU in the Olympiad.

The team was coached by representatives from the Department of Geodesy, Land Management and Cadastres at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services of SPbGASU: Senior Lecturer Larisa Kurbanova and Associate Professor Nikita Volkov, PhD of Engineering Sciences.

Second place in the team standings and a silver medal in the individual competition are significant achievements for students from SPbGASU. The successful performance of the "Meridian" team underscores the importance of practical training for future professionals and demonstrates their readiness to apply the knowledge they have gained to real-world professional challenges.
