Ivan Beshentsev, a graduate of the Faculty of Automobile and Road Building, was recognized as the best graduate of St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in 2026.

The young specialist already combines scientific research with work in the field of urban transportation, plans to continue his studies in the SPbGASU master's program, and intends to develop his own scientific methodology for designing transportation systems.

Ivan's interest in the transportation industry began during his school years. His initial research focused on hydrogen technologies, but over time, his primary focus became the development of urban electric transport and transportation planning.

While studying at SPbGASU, Ivan was actively involved in research, participated in specialized competitions, worked on projects to improve the transport system of St Petersburg and interacted with representatives of the transport industry. Already in his third year, he began to combine studies with professional activities and today works as an assistant to the deputy director of the St Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise “Gorelektrotrans”.

"We're currently working on a major project to improve the efficiency of the route network. Our goal is to analyze existing routes, identify areas of duplication, and propose solutions that will allow for more efficient use of urban electric transport," Ivan explained.

The graduate's research focuses on working out his own methodology for developing urban electric transport. He explains that existing approaches don't always take into account the specific needs of certain cities, so he strives to create a universal system that can be applied in a variety of conditions.

"My goal is to ensure that this methodology works not only in St Petersburg but also in other cities. I want scientific research to bring real benefits and become a tool for making practical decisions," noted Ivan Beshentsev.

Ivan emphasizes that his SPbGASU professors and the opportunity to engage in research while still studying had a significant impact on his professional development.

"The most important thing the university gave me was the opportunity to work on real-life problems and interact with people involved in developing the transportation industry. This is what helped me finally realize that transportation planning is what I want to do for the rest of my life," he says.

After receiving his bachelor's degree, Ivan will pursue a master's degree at St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, where he plans to further his research and prepare for graduate school. He hopes to defend his dissertation and continue his work on the comprehensive theory for the development of urban transportation systems.

The graduate advises the applicants to first and foremost choose a profession based on their calling.

"The main thing is to enroll in a program that truly interests you. If you're doing something you love, it's much easier for you to develop. And, of course, you shouldn't limit yourself to just university classes: independent study, research, and a constant desire to learn new things play a major role," Ivan believes.
