Alesya Pogoda, a second-year master's student majoring in Construction Technology, won the All-Russian Engineering Competition for undergraduate and graduate students in engineering. Her supervisor is Anton Gaido, DSc in Engineering and Head of the SPbGASU Department of Construction Technology.
Alesya PogodaThe jury highly commended the work on the topical issue of "Using permanent sheet piles as permanent enclosing constructions for underground structures." The study's objective was to substantiate the design and technological parameters for constructing such structures using permanent steel sheet piles.
During the course of her research, the master's student solved several important problems:
- using a feasibility study, the effectiveness of using steel sheet piling technology to create permanent fencing was proven;
- a methodology for using steel sheet piles in relation to specific engineering and geological conditions of a construction site has been developed;
- a technical regulation for sheet piling has been developed, including recommendations for design, preparation of process maps, and solutions for ensuring waterproofing of sheet pile walls.
Collaboration with RBI company, which provided the analysis materials, added particular practical value to the work. Using real construction projects as examples, Alesya Pogoda clearly demonstrated that the proposed solution not only rivals traditional methods in terms of performance, but also delivers cost savings of up to 30% and reduces construction time by four to six months.
Previously, the final qualifying work for the bachelor's degree of the the master's student's in the field of study 08.04.01. Civil Engineering (profile "Technology of construction") was awarded first place in an intra-university competition.
We congratulate Alesya Pogoda and her supervisor on their well-deserved victory and wish them continued professional success!
