Students from the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, who participated in the all-Russian competitive educational program "Project Bureau," won bronze in the competition to develop a concept for the second phase of the Far Eastern Federal University campus. The facility is located on Russky Island in Vladivostok.

The competition was organized by the public-law company (PLC) "Single Customer in Construction" on behalf of the Russian Ministry of Construction and aimed at finding modern architectural and urban planning solutions for the development of one of the country's largest university campuses.

An interdisciplinary team from St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, led by Aleksandra Masionene, a senior lecturer at the Department of Information and Mathematical Modeling Technologies, and supported by the Educational Center for Project-Based Learning, worked on the project for several months. It also served as one of the comprehensive graduation projects—joint final qualification work—that the graduates defended this year. The participants developed a comprehensive project, combining architectural, urban planning, engineering, and digital approaches to territorial design.

The team included second- and third-year students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Kamalya Nazruloeva, Sabina Ivanilova, Ulyana Guseva, Igor Migilev, Adeliya Yakupova, Ksenia Boltyan, Aleksandra Rudakova and Daniil Goncharenko, and of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services Nikita Ufimtsev, Ksenia Shvetsova; Ilsur Kamaletdinov

The competition brief called for the development of a concept for a next-generation university campus, including superior hotel-style dormitories, public spaces, educational and research infrastructure, and a public building featuring creative ideas. The total area of the planned site was approximately 76,000 square meters.

The SPbGASU team's work was characterized by an interdisciplinary approach to solving the assigned task. During the design process, the participants considered the complex topography of Russky Island, the requirements for developing a modern university environment, transport and pedestrian connectivity issues, engineering support, and digital modeling.

Particular attention was paid to environmental and sustainable development issues. The concept was developed taking into account research conducted by Far Eastern Federal University as part of the state carbon polygon program. The project envisions the integration of nature-based solutions, the development of environmental infrastructure, and the creation of conditions for climate, environmental, and interdisciplinary research on campus.

The concept aims to create a modern educational and research environment that integrates teaching, research, innovation, and comfortable living conditions for students and teachers. Solutions are proposed to create a sustainable and technologically advanced university campus that meets modern urban environmental standards.

Following the competition, the work of the interdisciplinary team from SPbGASU received high praise from the expert jury and was awarded a bronze prize.

Participation in such projects allows students to apply their knowledge in real-world professional settings, master modern design methods, and gain experience working on large-scale federal-level projects. The team's achievements confirm the effectiveness of the interdisciplinary approach and the high level of training of SPbGASU students.

We congratulate the team members and project manager Aleksandra Masionienė on this remarkable achievement and wish them continued professional success and new victories!
