On 22 October, the Department of Descriptive Geometry and Engineering Graphics at the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering hosted a session as part of the LXXIX National (All-Russian) Scientific and Practical Conference, "Current Issues in Modern Construction." Eleven speakers took part in the event. The session was chaired by the Head of the Department, PhD of Engineering Sciences Elena Denisova.

Participants presented research projects focused on the application of modern digital technologies in construction and design. The topics covered included the geometric modeling of complex architectural forms, pipeline routing in constrained spaces, the development of robotic components using the KOMPAS-3D system, the creation of digital twins for buildings based on the Internet of Things (IoT), the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies, and the use of self-healing concrete.

Following the meeting, the commission highlighted three reports:

  • “3D modeling of a school building, decomposition, and 3D printing of a scale model using the KOMPAS-3D system.” Author: Pavel Komissarov, a first-year student in the field “Civil engineering”, majoring in “Industrial and civil engineering.” Academic supervisor: Olga Yakubenko, Associate Professor at the Department of Descriptive Geometry and Engineering Graphics, PhD of Engineering Sciences.

  • “The use of industrial technologies to reduce construction timeframes.” Author: Mark Maksimov, a second-year student in the field “Construction of unique buildings and structures”, majoring in the "Construction of high-rise and long-span buildings and structures." Academic supervisor: Yuliana Guryeva, Associate Professor at the Department of Descriptive Geometry and Engineering Graphics, PhD of Engineering Sciences.

  • “A comprehensive system for the operational monitoring of buildings and structures: modern technologies and efficiency.” Author: Artur Kamaliev, a second-year student in the field “Construction of unique buildings and structures”, majoring in the "Construction of high-rise and long-span buildings and structures." Academic supervisor: Yuliana Guryeva.

The presented projects demonstrated a variety of approaches to addressing current challenges in the construction industry—ranging from digital modeling and 3D printing to shortening construction timelines and improving the monitoring of the condition of buildings and structures.

Congratulations to the students and their research supervisors on their successful presentations, and we wish them continued success in their research endeavors!
