The championship participants
On 28 May, the Department of Water Use and Environment (WUE) at SPbGASU summarized the results of the engineering championship, held jointly with the "Region" company.
During the academic semester, students developed designs for water intake structures commissioned by Region. The project's goal was to develop a process flow diagram for operating a water intake system in the challenging hydrological and ice-covered conditions of the Zeya River (Amur Region). Together with mentors and company engineers, the students creatively addressed the challenges and presented their individual designs. The proposed solutions included island, channel, bucket, and radial infiltration intakes.
The teams confidently completed engineering calculations, developed design drawings for the structures, and presented an information model, as well as the results of mathematical modeling, to optimally select the river cross section for the water intake location.
The chairman of the jury, General Director of Region LLC, Aleksey Shchukin, noted the unconventional, bold engineering solutions, the high level of materials presentation, and the high level of future specialists training.
The project with an island-type water intake was recognized as the best. It was developed by students from group 2-Sb(VV)-3: Irina Afanasenko, Egor Viktorin, Ekaterina Prudnikova, and Polina Severova.
The championship winners received letters of recommendation and an invitation to an internship at "Region".
