The Scientific and Technical Library of the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering invites you to an exhibition of newly acquired hard copy publications.
The exhibition opens with art albums by Nikolay Markov, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Leningrad Institute of Civil Engineering (SPbGASU), who taught for many years in the Department of Drawing at his alma mater. In his work, the artist devoted much attention and love to the ancient monuments of Pskov and the architectural landmarks of St Petersburg. The artist's works are a life story, reflected in painting and graphic art: impressions and moods, memories and reflections.
Particularly noteworthy is the historical collection "Leningrad Architects – Participants of the Great Patriotic War," published in 2026, which reveals new chapters in the work of architects during difficult times for our country. This book of remembrance includes biographical essays and profiles of over one hundred architects and students of architecture schools (such as the Leningrad Institute of Civil Engineering and the Academy of Arts) who went to the front or remained to work in besieged Leningrad. The authors accomplished a tremendous amount of work, meeting with both the veterans themselves and the relatives of the heroes who have since passed away.
The exhibition also features textbooks, study guides, collections of works, and methodological developments prepared by the faculty of our university as a result of research work.
The textbook by Professor at the Department of Urban Planning, DSc in Architecture Sergey Semenov "Development and Design of Final Qualification Works of Restoration Architect" examines the composition, content, methods for completing sections of the final qualifying work, and the volumes of the main sections of graphic and textual work.
The publication "Architectural Graphics in Coursework Design" (authored by Maria Granstrem and Alesya Boyko, lecturers at the Department of Architectural Environment Design) reveals the basic techniques and methods of hand-drawn architectural graphics used by students for sketching, as well as for presentations created in graphic editors, when computer graphics are enhanced with hand-drawn techniques. Practical aspects are examined in detail, from working with lines and fonts to creating entourage and staffage (stylized images of the surroundings—nature, people, and technology—that help enhance the drawing and convey scale).
The textbook "Construction of Shallow Foundations from Monolithic Reinforced Concrete" by Yury Kazakov and Yury Tilinin, lecturers at the Department of Construction Technology, examines in detail the modern theoretical and practical aspects of constructing shallow foundations from monolithic reinforced concrete, the methodology for compiling process maps using the example of a course project, calculating the volume of work and selecting the necessary machines and mechanisms.
The exhibition also features new publications on architecture and socio-architectural research, construction technology and structural mechanics, modeling and operation of transport and technological machines, art, and history.
We invite those interested in exploring the publications in detail to the reading hall of the SPbGASU Scientific and Technical Library (room 217). The exhibition will run until 30 September.
