On 29 October, Rashid Abdullovich Mangushev celebrates his 75th birthday. He is an Honored Scientist of Russia, a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (RAACS), a DSc in Engineering, and a Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Geotechnics. He is an eminent scholar and a leading expert in the field of construction on weak soils.
Rashid Mangushev is a graduate of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Leningrad Institute of Civil Engineering (now SPbGASU). His academic and teaching career at the Department of Geotechnics began in 1974, and he served as the department’s head from 2002 to 2022. During this time, he mentored several generations of professionals, overseeing the training of 20 Candidates of Engineering Sciences and three Doctors of Engineering Sciences. Under his scientific guidance, technical and research support has been provided for over 70 major projects and construction sites in Saint Petersburg and other regions of Russia. Rashid Abdullovich leads the scientific school focused on "Structures and technologies for the construction of foundations and underground facilities" and serves as the Director of the SPbGASU Scientific and Production and Consulting Center for Geotechnologies.
The scientist’s academic contribution includes more than 360 scientific works, including fundamental monographs, patents and textbooks. Among the awards and achievements of the hero of the day are:

Honored Scientist of Russia (2025), Honored Worker of Higher Education of Russia, Honorary Worker of Higher Education of Russia, and recipient of the Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland," II class;

Prizes of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of education (2019), science and technology (2022), as well as the Prize of the Government of St Petersburg (2016);

The Betancourt Medal from the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, honorary awards from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, and the status of Honorary Doctor of Henan University of Technology (China).
Today, the professor is actively engaged in expert and public work. He chairs the dissertation council at SPbGASU, serves as a technical expert for the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (RAACS), and is a member of the Council for the Preservation of St Petersburg’s Cultural Heritage.
