On 20 June, the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering is starting the admissions campaign 2026.

Ilya Gladushevsky, Executive Secretary of the SPbGASU Admissions Committee, Associate Professor, and PhD of Engineering Sciences, spoke about the opportunities that awaited applicants, which programs were most in demand today, and why it was important not to put off submitting documents until the last minute.

– The admissions campaign 2026 is starting at SPbGASU. What are the Admissions Committee's goals this year?

– Our main goal is to conduct the admissions campaign honestly, openly, and in full compliance with the law.

It's important to us that every applicant has equal admissions opportunities, regardless of whether they live in St Petersburg or anywhere else in Russia. Today, many students apply remotely, so we strive to make the entire process as clear and transparent as possible.

We also understand that admission to a university is an important step not only for the applicants but also for their families. Therefore, we strive to promptly answer questions and help you navigate all the nuances of the admissions process.

– What changes in the admissions rules or application procedure are important for applicants to know about?

– The first thing I recommend every applicant do is to carefully read the admission rules posted on the university's official website.

In recent years, more and more processes have been moving digital, and today the most important admissions tool is the "University Admission" service on the Unified Portal of State and Municipal Services (Gosuslugi). A verified account on the Gosuslugi portal allows you to quickly submit documents, track your status in the competition lists, and manage your admission approval.

– Which fields of study are most in demand among applicants to SPbGASU?

– Looking at the statistics of recent years, applicants consistently show high interest in fields related to construction, architecture, transport infrastructure, and digital technologies in construction.

This is understandable. Today, the country is implementing large-scale infrastructure projects, developing its construction industry, modernizing its transportation network, and actively developing and rebuilding its territories. All of this requires qualified engineering personnel, so interest in engineering education remains consistently high.

This year, for example, we have opened enrollment in a new engineering direction at the Faculty of Civil Engineering - “Restoration of Buildings and Structures”, where they will train specialists who are proficient, among other things, in digital methods for creating multi-layer models of cultural heritage objects that require reconstruction and restoration work.

Another new field is Applied Geodesy. We train specialists who work with GNSS systems, laser scanning, photogrammetry, and unmanned technologies. This is no longer classical geodesy, but a comprehensive digital engineering discipline.

– What admissions targets and number of state-funded places can the university expect this year?

– Admissions targets are approved annually by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and published on the university's official website.

In 2026, 1,173 state-funded places are available for applicants to bachelor's and specialist's degree programs at SPbGASU. 592 state-funded places are available for applicants to master's programs, and 37 state-funded places are available for postgraduate programs.

This significant budgetary enrollment allows the university to train specialists in the construction, architecture, road transport, engineering, and science fields. Training specialists in these fields remains one of the most important tasks of the higher education system.

– What do applicants most often pay attention to when choosing a university?

– Today, students approach their university selection very consciously. They are interested in the quality of education, employment prospects, availability of state-funded places, and the opportunity to gain practical experience while still studying. In this regard, our university stands out from many others because interaction with industrial partners—potential employers—begins in the first year. All programs have specialized partners who help students develop relevant professional skills. They regularly hold lectures and master classes, organize factory tours, and provide opportunities for internships and work placements. Therefore, starting in their second year, many students already have their future employer in mind and gradually begin working with them.

Equally important for applicants are the availability of dormitories, modern university infrastructure, and employer reviews of graduates.

SPbGASU offers out-of-town students a modern dormitory in the city center, located near the main academic buildings, as well as accommodation on the inter-university campus. So, I want to reassure those parents who are worried about sending their children to study in another region: we always care about our students, providing them with a comfortable and safe place to live and study.

– What are the most common mistakes applicants make when submitting documents?

– The most common mistake remains the same year after year: inattention to deadlines and admission rules.

Sometimes applicants put off important actions until the last minute, make mistakes when filling out applications, or don't pay close enough attention to the competition.

Therefore, my main advice is to study the admissions rules in advance, regularly check information on the university website, and not leave everything to the last minute.

– Why should applicants choose SPbGASU over other technical universities in St Petersburg?

– SPbGASU is one of the country's leading civil engineering universities, with a distinguished history and strong professional traditions. We are building a system in which education, science, and industry are integrated into a single chain. Our key goal is not simply to impart knowledge, but to develop the ability to work with real-world engineering problems in a digital environment.

We train specialists for industries that directly impact the development of cities, transport and engineering infrastructure, and Russia's construction industry. We place a strong emphasis not only on theoretical training but also on practical experience.

Experience shows that SPbGASU graduates are in demand both in St Petersburg and far beyond. Engineering professions remain among the most sought-after on the labor market today.

In 2027, SPbGASU will celebrate its anniversary. The university will be 195 years old—almost two centuries! Over these two centuries, our graduates and teachers have played a key role in shaping the image of Russian cities, particularly St Petersburg, and industrial and infrastructure facilities such as metro systems and the Baikonur Cosmodrome. They also led the country's reconstruction efforts after the Great Patriotic War. Today, our graduates hold senior positions in government bodies, heading construction, architectural, and manufacturing state corporations and enterprises, and implementing modern high-tech projects aimed at creating a comfortable, dignified, and prosperous life in our country.

– What would you like to wish to applicants who will begin their journey to university on 20 June?

– First of all, I want to wish them peace of mind and confidence in their abilities.

Applying to university is an important step in your life, but don't feel intimidated by it. Our Admissions Committee is here to help you navigate every step of the process, and our staff is always ready to assist you and answer any questions you may have about the admissions process.

I wish every applicant successful completion of all stages of the admissions process, enrollment to their chosen field of study, and finding a career that will bring them joy and allow them to fulfill their potential in the future.
