The exhibition "The Historical Heritage of Cuba through the Eyes of Modern Students and Professionals" has concluded at the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. It attracted students, teachers and university guests for several weeks.
The project, created with the support of the Committee for State Control, Use, and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of St Petersburg, has become an important step in the development of cultural and educational cooperation between Russia and Cuba.
Yanet Hernandez Perez, Governor of the Province of Havana in the Republic of Cuba, paid special attention to the exhibition during her official visit to SPbGASU. She noted the high quality of the works presented by the students and teachers, emphasizing that the exhibition not only conveys the spirit and flavor of Havana but also reflects a deep understanding of Cuban culture and architectural heritage. "It seems as if this was created by people born in Havana. The students wonderfully conveyed the warmth and beauty of Cuba. I hope that this exhibition and our exchange of experiences will mark the beginning of what will become a major cooperation between Russia and Cuba. The doors of our universities are open to you," the Governor said.
At the initiative of Yanet Hernandez Perez and with the support of St Petersburg Governor Aleksandr Beglov, the exhibits were sent to Havana, where they will be displayed at the venue of a reception hosted by the St Petersburg Government on 22 November. The Governor of Havana Province promised that the Republic of Cuba will also select a university to depict St Petersburg through the eyes of Cuban students.
The parties also planned to collaborate on the organization and implementation of restoration and preservation work on historical heritage. Specifically, representatives of Cuban educational institutions are expected to attend the traditional national (all-Russian) scientific and practical conference with international participation, "Reconstruction and Restoration of Architectural Heritage," which will be held at SPbGASU in March 2026.
