On 9–10 April, the final round of the All-Russian Fire Protection Systems Design Competition in the Student League category was held at the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (NRU MGSU). The team from the SPbGASU Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services demonstrated a high level of preparation, taking a respectable second place in the overall team standings.

Over 50 students from 16 universities competed in the in-person round. The competition was organized by the Consortium of Security, Fire, and Access Control Systems Manufacturers, with the support of the RUBEZH Group of Companies.

The assignment required participants to possess not only a thorough understanding of the regulatory framework but also practical skills: developing a system design using domestic equipment and the Russian automation system NanoCAD. Experts assessed their ability to intelligently select components and take into account modern building automation requirements.

The preparation of the team from the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering was supervised by Dmitry Gorlatov, Associate Professor at the Department of Structural Physics, Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Commenting on their team's success, he noted: "Reaching the finals and winning silver at this level is the result of the students' tremendous extracurricular work. Designing fire protection systems in the NanoCAD environment requires not only engineering intuition but also impeccable mastery of complex software. Our students have proven that they can quickly adapt to market demands and work with advanced domestic technologies on par with professionals."

The honor of our university was defended by a team consisting of students from the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services (Electric Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering major) Anton Klyuev, Andrey Kostikov (both fourth-year students) and Dmitry Plutok (first-year master's student).

Dmitry Plutok noted the assistance provided by industry experts in preparing for the competition: "I would like to express my gratitude to RUBEZH: in two months of training, they helped us go from minimal knowledge to a solid professional foundation. I was also impressed by the organization at MGSU – modern workstations ensured comfortable work, and the awards ceremony at the Russian Ministry of Construction was an unforgettable experience."

Andrey Kostikov emphasized the social significance of the chosen direction: "We were faced with the challenging task of designing low-current systems. Ensuring people's safety is crucial these days: proper design allows us not only to warn of a fire but also to detect it at an early stage. The knowledge we gained will definitely be useful in the future."

Anton Klyuev shared his emotions about the final: "The level of the competition at MGSU was impressive – everything was clear, modern, and fully immersive in real-world cases. The result – second place. On the one hand, there's room for improvement, but on the other, knowing we're among the top three in the country is invaluable. Standing with a diploma at the Russian Ministry of Construction, you feel the significance of your future profession."

The awards ceremony at the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Utilities highlighted the importance of training young professionals for the security industry. We congratulate our students on this well-deserved award and wish them continued success!
