On 15 May, SPbGASU was visited by the First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for State Control, Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (KGIOP) of St Petersburg Ekaterina Kozyreva and the Head of the Department for Preservation of the Historical Environment of Central Districts of the Committee's Department for Preservation of the Historical Environment Irina Skorobogatykh. Together with teachers from the Department of Architectural and Urban-Planning Heritage, the experts took part in a preliminary discussion of bachelor's final qualifying works dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the Northern capital.
All final qualifying works presented for discussion were carried out within the framework of the SPbGASU development project in the field of restoration “Scientific and Educational Laboratory for Restoration and Renovation of Architectural Heritage” (SEL RRAH) according to the assignment for the completion of final qualifying works, agreed upon with KGIOP.
Yulia Aitova presented to the experts the project "Restoration of the object "Temple of the Roman Catholic Sacred Heart of the Lord Jesus" with renovation of the adjacent territory" (scientific supervisor - Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural and Urban-Planning Heritage Nadezhda Akulova). The design territory is located in the Nevsky district at the intersection of Babushkina and Farforovskaya streets. The student proposed to make the temple a vertical dominant feature of urban planning again, and to do this, to recreate the bell towers according to the design of Stefan Galenzovsky.
Yulia Byzova is working on the project "Renovation of the A. A. Paramonov tannery with a concept for the development of the adjacent territory in St Petersburg" (supervised by Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural and Urban-Planning Heritage Lyudmila Kaloshina, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Architectural and Urban-Planning Heritage Maria Kolesova). The plant is located on Vasilievsky Island. The student proposes to place a large shopping center, restaurant, museum and much more on the territory; to create a developed infrastructure for new and under-construction residential areas that lack public spaces and green spaces.
Vasilisa Gavrilova is the author of the project "Restoration and adaptation of the Admiralty Shipyard slipways" (supervisor - Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural and Urban-Planning Heritage Natalia Dubrovina). The student is working on proposals for the renovation and development of the entire territory of Novo-Admiralteysky Island with the adaptation of the slipways for the Admiralty Shipyards Museum. Vasilisa is confident that the renovation of the island's territory will create a new point of attraction, reveal the tourist potential of the territory and increase the possibilities of the city's transport interchange, and preserve the industrial heritage of St Petersburg.
"We always come to the "run-throughs" of diplomas to see how students are prepared and, if necessary, correct mistakes before the work is completed. It is very important to train high-level personnel. A cooperation agreement has been signed between KGIOP and SPbGASU, within the framework of which the corporate department operates. Our employees give lectures and conduct practical classes," said Ekaterina Kozyreva.
"Students need to know how viable their proposals are from the point of view of current regulations, because they work with historical and cultural heritage sites, and the bulk of the work is carried out within the boundaries of a historical settlement. Graduates must understand what is reality and what is just a fantasy that cannot be implemented. Today's discussion will help the guys understand this, since it involves those inspectors who evaluate project documentation during real design.
We hope that upon graduation we will be able to organize an exhibition of works and their discussion at round tables: this will help popularize restoration and attract attention to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage of both the public and potential investors,” said Nadezhda Akulova.
“We are grateful to KGIOP for their cooperation and patronage,” emphasized Ekaterina Vozniak, Dean of the SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture.
