11 student creative groups presented their works to Vladimir Demin, head of the urban planning policy department of the St Petersburg Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture. The discussion was attended by students, heads of creative workshops - Head of the Department of Urban Planning Yulia Yankovskaya and Associate Professor at the Department Mikhail Vilensky, as well as teachers of the Department of Urban Planning Associate Professor Ksenia Veretennikova, Senior Lecturer Olga Tsepilova and Lecturer Elena Karpenko.

The students worked as part of the course design on the topic "Reconstruction of the Historic Quarter". The projects were dedicated to the transformation of the post-industrial territories of the Nevsky Plant, adjacent to the Obukhovskoy Oborony Prospect and the Neva embankment from the Finland Railway Bridge to the Volodarsky Bridge. In connection with the future construction of the Bolshoi Smolensky Bridge, the committee considers these territories to be promising.

The authors designed new centers of attraction, points of growth of social activity. Thus, young designers sought to solve the problems of humanizing the urban environment while preserving the industrial heritage.

“Maxim Kolosov and I proposed creating a landscaped continuous pedestrian embankment with many public spaces and points of attraction, erecting several public buildings of various functions, improving pedestrian communication between the embankment and the city, and reorganizing the parking system,” said Daniil Lyavdansky.

“Together with Danil Berdyugin, we solved the task of creating a functioning, logical, interesting space that could become a youth and tourist center in the future. This territory has great potential for development,” shared Ilya Teterin.

“The territory is complex and diverse, therefore, in addition to a comprehensive consideration, we developed individual joints, solved the problems inherent in a particular site. The main thing in the proposed strategy for the development of the territory is the organization of student campuses, the creation of conditions for attracting residents of the city, the improvement of the embankment and the formation of a multi-level pedestrian route that reveals the historical code of the quarter,” said Danil Berdyugin.

“The SPbGASU Department of Urban Planning actively cooperates with the St Petersburg Committee for Urban Planning and the Committee for Urban Planning Policy of the Leningrad Region. Thanks to this, students are included in the real project urban planning, which, in turn, stimulates them to promote their creative ideas and master professional skills. Students completed similar work in December 2022 at the request of the CUPP of LR. Then, as now, the academic interest coincided with the practical interest of urban planners,” said Yulia Yankovskaya.

The St Petersburg Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture sent a letter of thanks to the Rector of SPbGASU Evgeny Rybnov. The first deputy chairman of the committee, the chief architect of St Petersburg Pavel Sokolov noted the high level of student works, singled out the best of them and announced the committee's plans to continue the joint development of projects on custom topics related to topical issues in the development of the city.
