Since 2021 the Forbes rating has been conducted to identify the 100 best universities in Russia. Educational institutions are assessed in five key areas: networking quality, employer reputation, international reputation, academic environment, and the Forbes factor (the number of university graduates on the Forbes list of Russian billionaires for the corresponding year).

In addition, a mandatory condition for participation is that the university has bachelor's and specialist's degree programs, as well as the number of students in the two academic years preceding the reporting year of at least 400 people.

In 2025, SPbGASU entered the top 100 universities in the Forbes ranking for the first time, taking 49th place.
