Graduates of the SPbGASU faculty of civil engineering were among the winners of the competition of final qualifying works of Saint Petersburg universities students, dedicated to the Road Economy Workers' Day.

The organizer of the competition "Transport infrastructure of the megalopolis of the XXI century" was the Committee for the Development of Transport Infrastructure of St Petersburg. Eight students from SPbGASU participated in it. Graduates presented their projects to the expert commission aimed at improving design and technological solutions in the implementation of road infrastructure facilities.

The award ceremony took place on 13 October at the Museum of Bridges simultaneously with the celebration of the winners of the children's drawing contest "Favorite Road in the City".

Vladimir Novatorov with his final qualifying work "Features of engineering transition curves designed for variable speed" (supervisor – head of the department of roads, bridges and tunnels Maria Klekovkina) took first place.

Vladimir proposed an innovative approach to engineering transition curves designed for variable speed, developed a program that computerise this process. According to the author, to date, roundings on highways are calculated according to a method that is very conditional, but in the work it was possible to concretize it. The study builds on existing data and aims to improve road safety. Vladimir Novatorov is sure: designing is real art, and roads are romance, the strongest symbol of perpetual motion.

Anna Sekreteva with her work on the topic "Accounting for global climate change in the design of roads in the I road-climatic zone" (supervisor – associate professor at the department of roads, bridges and tunnels Aleksandr Simanovsky) became the second. The third place went to Valentina Spiridonova with her work on the topic “Project of a traffic interchange at the intersection of highways of IB and IV categories” (supervisor – Aleksandr Simanovsky).
