The qualifying round of the All-Russian TIM Championship of SPbGASU for students of our university has started. Six teams have applied to participate – that is, working groups involving participants in seven competencies: architect, designer, heating and ventilation engineer, water supply and sanitation engineer, estimator, TIM coordinator, power supply engineer.
Over the four days, the participants of the TIM Championship must design a multifunctional residential complex and defend their projects on 19 May. The same day the results will be announced and the winners will be awarded.
"Depending on their competencies, the participants design in Renga, nanoCAD, CADLib Model and Archive, Pilot-BIM, SmetaWIZARD and BIMWizard, Blender programs. According to the stated requirements, the design is carried out on a 900 square meter site on Staro-Petergofsky Prospekt in St Petersburg. The multifunctional residential complex is an element of the urban structure, which combines several functional and planning components, and also provides residents with services of various types. The building has five above-ground floors and a basement, its approximate total area is 3,000 square meters," said Inna Sukhanova, Director of the SPbGASU Educational Center for Digital Competence.
A third-year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Adelina Khalikova, chose the designer competency. She is interested in calculations of structures, so she wanted to work in this direction: to create a multi-story building and calculate structures and materials for it.
"When designing a single building, it is necessary to use several types of building materials. We have not created anything like this before, so due to lack of experience, we thought about how to combine reinforced concrete, wood and metal structures in this project. At the same time, we are interested in generating ideas in this direction. So it turned out that all things are difficult before they are easy," Adelina shared.
Adelya Yakubova is also a third-year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, but she decided to test her competencies as an architect in the TIM championship. She says that she wants to gain new experience and better understand the work of related specialists.
"As a future constructor, such experience is interesting and useful to me, but unusual for now, because I look at the design object from a different angle. If the construction profession involves calculations, the choice of certain building materials, then the competence of an architect includes the development of the concept of the object, visualization of the project. I am sure that such a skill will be useful to me in my future professional activity," says Adelya.
Edgar Barseghyan, a second-year student at the Faculty of Architecture, admits that due to constant competitions and other professional activities, he initially did not plan to participate in the TIM Championship. However, he was asked to replace a sick participant. Edgar is sure that this situation also brought good experience: it is important for a specialist to be able to quickly integrate into a new working group and delve into work processes.
"I am very eager to participate in many competitions and Olympiads, because this is a test of knowledge, communication with new people. I am familiar with working with digital models, I know Renga well, although this program is not the main one in my work. In addition, I taught it to schoolchildren in TIM classes. I am sure that knowledge of other programs will help me and my team avoid technical problems. Well-coordinated teamwork is very important: it allows you to quickly identify errors, because when you work alone, your eye gets used to it," Edgar said.
