This summer, as part of a memorandum of cooperation signed between the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering and the Toraigyrov University (Kazakhstan), members of the student archaeological squad (SAS) "Lin" from our university took part in an archaeological expedition in Kazakhstan.
The work was carried out within the framework of the “Great Altai” project of the Scientific and Educational Center for Altaic Studies and Turkic Studies of Altai State University (ASU) together with NJSC “Toraigyrov University”. The project is carried out with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. Scientists from Russia and Central Asia take part in it.
The Semiyarsk archaeological expedition team, including our students, conducted research near the village of Zhetizhar in the Beskaragay district of the Abai region of Kazakhstan. The work was conducted at the Semiyarka (City of Seven Ravines) settlement, dating back to the Late Bronze Age. The remains of metallurgical sites and residential structures were studied.
The excavation organisers highly appreciated the students' assistance.
SPbGASU has a rich tradition of student squads. Currently, the university has nine student squads of various types, providing students with summer jobs while simultaneously helping them gain professional experience, teamwork skills, and valuable connections.
