Competition finalists
In early March, Moscow hosted the 5th International Competition "Tourism Code of My Country, City, Town, or District – PRO-Tourism". This project aims to create and open new tourist routes and promote and develop the tourism industry in Russia.
SPbGASU is participating in this competition for the first time and is immediately successful: students from the Department of Urban Planning, Maria Kuznetsova, Gleb Ivanov, and Anastasia Leontyeva, were awarded second-place honors for their project, "Sosnovo: where the myths of the Kalevala become reality," in the Scientific and Industrial Tourism category. The project was supervised by Mikhail Vilensky, Associate Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Urban Planning and PhD of Architecture.
Maria Kuznetsova presented the project to an expert committee consisting of tourism and hospitality industry specialists. According to her, this peripheral development project proposes a new model for a settlement system based on a tourism and recreational framework. The concept is suitable for replication in other settlements with similar potential.
The competition received over 1,000 applications from 86 regions. The awards ceremony took place at the Gostiny Dvor Exhibition Center in Moscow.
