On 9 June, fourth- to sixth-year students of the SPbGASU Department of Transport Systems and Road and Bridge Construction (TS&RBC) took part in a unique technical excursion, "Cable-stayed bridges of St Petersburg."

The event was organized by the Stroykompleks-5 Group of Companies with the support of the Russian National Group of the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineers (IABSE). The tour was part of an initiative to transfer accumulated engineering experience to future generations of bridge specialists.

The program was specially prepared and conducted for our students by Stanislav Shulman, a renowned St Petersburg bridge builder, CEO of Stroykompleks-5 Group of Companies, IABSE member, and participant in the construction of the St Petersburg flood protection complex, the Baikal-Amur Mainline, and several other large-scale infrastructure projects. Under his guidance, the students explored the bridge structures of St Petersburg and its suburbs from an engineering perspective, learning about their design and construction.

The tour route included the first pedestrian cable-stayed bridge across the Ligovsky Canal in the Northern capital, a cable-stayed heating bridge in the "Baltic Pearl" residential area, large cable-stayed bridges on the Ring Road, bridge structures of the Western High-Speed Diameter, and a number of sites in the central part of the city.

The cable-stayed bridge across the Malaya Sestra River in Sestroretsk attracted particular attention from the participants. This structure became the highlight of the program: its reconstruction project was developed by Stanislav Shulman himself, allowing the students to learn about the engineering solutions firsthand.

"Stanislav Aleksandrovich, who is truly passionate about his life's work, made us fall in love with bridges even more. He discovered and illuminated a topic we'd been most ignorant of—cable-stayed bridges—from every angle. He imparted a wealth of knowledge, supported by visual examples, that will be very useful in our future professional endeavors," noted one of the tour participants.

The staff and students of the SPbGASU Department of Transport Systems and Road and Bridge Construction express their gratitude to the excursion organizers Stanislav Shulman and Yulia Egorova (GC "Stroykompleks-5").
