Since the beginning of the second semester, international and Russian students at the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering have been participating in language contests, which universities across the country have been actively hosting during this period. The results of several competitions and olympiads have been announced. Our students were able to test their knowledge of a foreign language and Russian as a foreign language and earn well-deserved diplomas and certificates.

Students of the Preparatory Department for foreign applicants excelled at the International Olympiad in Russian as a Foreign Language, "Minin Olympus," which was held at the Kozma Minin Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University.

The Olympiad was held in three stages. For the first, international students prepared speeches in Russian about themselves, their hobbies, future professions, and their home country. The SPbGASU students successfully completed this task and advanced to the second stage, which required them to create a video on one of the given topics ("My Hometown," "Why Am I Studying Russian?", or "Famous People of Russia"). Our participants approached the task creatively and delivered engaging stories, accompanied by colorful video footage.

The third stage was organized as an online conference. International students were required to participate in a dialogue on an unspecified topic to demonstrate their spontaneous speaking skills.

The results of the Olympiad were as follows: Wang Shuo (China) and Hoang Ngoc Hu (Vietnam) became the winners, Li Minke (China), Li Shuo (China) and Yang Xinzhe (China) became the second-degree winners, and Li Fengqiang (China) became the third-degree winner.

Hoang Ngoc Hu also took part in the All-Russian Russian Language Olympiad, the final round of which took place on 25 February. The Olympiad was held at the Fevzi Yakubov Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University in Simferopol. The student represented SPbGASU with distinction and took third place. He was trained for the Olympiad by Elena Safronova, Professor at the Department of Intercultural Communication (IC).

Alena Belkova, a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Civil Engineering, took part in the annual German language dictation "Tolles Diktat." This nationwide event is timed to coincide with International Mother Language Day, celebrated on 21 February. Its goal is to popularize German culture and history in Russia, as well as to develop a culture of writing in German. Alena has already participated in this dictation and chooses a more challenging level each year.

Alina Beglerova, a second-year student in the Faculty of Architecture, took part in the All-Russian competition of scientific and journalistic translation "Masters of Higher Education," dedicated to Russian Science Day. Her supervisor was Tatyana Sakharova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Intercultural Communication. The competition was held at Astrakhan State University named after V.N. Tatishchev. Alina took third place in the "Translation of a Popular Science Text" category.

Participation in such Olympiads is important for international students, as it gives them confidence when communicating with native speakers and motivates them to further study the language.

We sincerely congratulate our students and wish them new victories, inspiration, and success in their studies!
