SPbGASU team: Matvey Matveev, Darya Yuraneva, Nadezhda Ostrovskaya, and Rostislav Surin
The 45th Anniversary All-Russian Student Olympiad in Strength of Materials took place at Ural Federal University (UrFU) in Ekaterinburg from 14 to 18 September.
The event brought together 76 students from 21 technical universities in Russia and Kyrgyzstan. Following the opening ceremony, the students got to know one another during a quiz, while the main stage of the competition involved solving six problems.
In addition to the main program, the agenda included visits to the laboratories and museum of UrFU and the university’s Advanced Engineering School, as well as a bus tour of Ekaterinburg that featured a stop at the Europe-Asia border.
Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering was represented by third-year students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering: Darya Yuraneva, Rostislav Surin, and Matvey Matveev. Darya Yuraneva (supervised by Nadezhda Ostrovskaya, Associate Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Construction Mechanics) achieved the best results, taking second place among participants from the Northwestern Federal District. As a result, the university team improved upon last year's performance and ranked among the top ten in the national standings.
