On 26 October, an exhibition titled "Scientific School of the Department of Geotechnics" opened at the university’s Scientific and Technical Library. The exhibition is held in conjunction with the National (All-Russian) Conference on "Modern methods of design, Underground construction, and reconstruction of bases and foundations," which will take place at SPbGASU from 28 to 30 October. The exhibition showcases key achievements, publications, textbooks, and monographs that reflect the contributions made by the department’s specialists to the advancement of construction science.

The scholars whose works are featured in this exhibition are prominent figures in the Russian tradition of foundation engineering, soil mechanics, and engineering geology. They include N. A. Tsytovich—the founder of the Soviet school of soil mechanics and geocryology, whose works became classic textbooks for generations of engineers; B. I. Dalmatov, N. N. Maslov, and S. N. Sotnikov—distinguished scientists who developed methods for calculating foundations and subsoils in complex, weak, or clayey ground conditions; A. B. Fadeev—a pioneer in the application of numerical methods and finite element analysis to geotechnics; and R. A. Mangushev and his colleagues (including A. I. Osokin, who currently heads the department, A. Zh. Zhussupbekov, and others)—contemporary leaders of this school who have successfully integrated traditional methods with digital modeling and underground construction technologies tailored for dense urban environments.

The transfer of expertise from such masters to young professionals not only preserves knowledge but also adapts it to the challenges of the 21st century—such as high-rise construction, the development of underground space in major cities, and the use of artificial intelligence in geotechnical calculations.

The exhibition is on display in the Scientific and Technical Library’s reading hall (room 217).
