The Scientific and Technical Library of the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering opened a book exhibition, "Great and Eternal Feat," dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.
The exhibition features a collection of documentary and artistic works: journalistic publications about the beginning and stages of the most terrible and bloody war in history, literature about the legendary heroes of tactical and offensive operations, about the selfless workers of the home front, memoirs and recollections of famous commanders, books and photo albums about the cities that bore the brunt of the enemy's attacks.
The history of the Battle of Leningrad—one of the fiercest battles of the Great Patriotic War, which lasted from 10 July, 1941, to 9 August, 1944—is extensively covered. During this time, more than 800,000 civilians and over a million Soviet soldiers perished. Troops from the Northern, Northwestern, Leningrad, Volkhov, Karelian, and 2nd Baltic Fronts, the Red Banner Baltic Fleet, the Chud, Ladoga, and Onega Flotillas, air force units, and partisans participated in the liberation. Students of the Institute of Civil Engineering/LISI (SPbGASU) also took part in this heroic stand from the first days of the war.
Also presented are publications that tell about the professional activities of teachers and students of the IGI/LISI (SPbGASU) during the war years, thanks to which strategically important objects of the city on the Neva were camouflaged, architectural measurements and recording of the destruction of buildings after shelling, restoration and reconstruction of architectural monuments took place.
The exhibition will run until 30 May in the reading hall (room 217).
