The sports club was established at SPbGASU in 2010. On 20 October, 2016, it was officially registered with the Association of Student Sports Clubs of Russia (ASSC; foundation: protocol of the meeting of the coordinating council of the ASSC of Russia, registration number 234).

The sports club was created and operates in order to involve students in physical education and sports, to develop and popularize student sports.

The club's main tasks are:
  • involvement of students in systematic physical culture and sports, the formation of their motivation and sustainable interest in health promotion;
  • organization of physical culture and sports work with students, including students with disabilities or students with health problems;
  • organization of the educational and training process in the sections organized by SPbGASU, improving the sports skills of students, creating the necessary conditions for its growth;
  • formation of SPbGASU combined sports teams, training and ensuring their participation in interuniversity student competitions;
  • assistance to students, members of sports teams in creating the necessary conditions for the effective organization of educational and training processes;
  • participation of students in various levels of sports competitions among educational organizations; registration, records of performance and sports achievements of SPbGASU students;
  • formation of a healthy lifestyle, civil and patriotic education of students;
  • education of physical and moral-volitional qualities, health promotion and reduction of morbidity, increase in the level of professional readiness, social activity of students.

The university top management, the coaching staff of the club pay great attention to the development of sports work with students, teachers and employees of the university.

While studying the students are given the opportunity to bring their level of physical, functional and mental fitness in line with the created graduate models, including the requirements of the chosen specialty, i.e. to achieve the required level of professional physical readiness.

The main building of the university at 4, 2nd Krasnoarmeiskaya street, has two large equipped sports halls: one of an area of 308 sq. m, designed for aerobics, power gymnastics, calisthenics, boxing, and another of the area of 303 sq. m - for martial arts. The halls are equipped with sports facilities, locker rooms and showers. The building at 2/5, Kurlyandskaya street has a large game hall with an area of 435.5 square meters for training of students and employees in volleyball, basketball, mini-football, floorball, badminton and tennis.

Currently, the university's sports activities include mass sports and the training of combined teams.

The main forms of sports activities are training sessions in sports, sports competitions, sports work reviews, sports holidays and parties, as well as mass sports events and work on the GTO complex.

LISI (SPbGASU) has trained the whole constellation of outstanding athletes. Among them were:
  • Tamara Press, champion of the XVII Olympic Games (1960) in athletics in discus throwing and shot put;
  • Zosya Rakitskaya, six-time champion of the USSR, four-time European champion in rowing;
  • T. Sadovsky (USSR champion in rowing and canoeing);
  • G. Khanbatyrov (two-time winner of the USSR Boxing Cup);
  • V. Chernogradsky (Russian champion in power lifting);
  • A. Vishnevsky (European and world champion in bodybuilding);
  • A. Maslov, D. Kolomiets (Russian rally champions).
And today a number of students successfully combine study and sports at the highest level:
  • Alyona Aksyonova (Faculty of Architecture) - champion of Russia among juniors, winner of the Russian and European championships in orienteering;
  • Kirill Martynichev (Faculty of Civil Engineering) - international master of sports in swimming, champion of Russia, winner of the European Championship, represented our country at the XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, where he took sixth place at a distance of 1500 m;
  • Olga Levina (Faculty of Economics and Management) took first place in the individual and team championships at the XXI European Taekwondo Championship (ITF) in Liverpool and first place at the World Championships in Pyongyang;
  • Nikita Stepanov (Faculty of Automobile and Road Building) - bronze medalist of the Russian Orienteering Championship in Sochi and sixth place winner at the World Championship;
  • Gleb Slobodenyuk (Faculty of Automobile and Road Building), as part of the St Petersburg national team, took second place at the Russian Biathlon Championship among juniors in Ufa, fulfilled the standard of a master of sports;
  • Nikita Olenichenko (Faculty of Civil Engineering) took third place at the World Championships in ballroom dancing, which was held in Seoul.

More than 300 university students are engaged in sports sections and defend the honor of the university at competitions of various levels. The main competitions for us are the St Petersburg student competitions among universities, which include 76 tournaments in 60 sports.

Especially worthy of mentioning the national teams in kickboxing, ice hockey, taekwondo, combat sambo, darts, billiards, fencing, rhythmic gymnastics, football, mini-football, basketball, orienteering, volleyball and athletics, which constantly show high results and win prize places in student and city competitions.

SPbGASU teachers and students actively participate in various all-Russian, city and regional sports events, such as the Ski Track of Russia, the Cross of Nations, the Spartakiad among employees of universities "Health", the Spartakiad of road workers, the Spartakiad "Freshman", city races GTO "The Way of Victory" and "The Way of Unity", the GTO festival among educational institutions of the Admiralteysky district, etc. University students as part of combined teams in various sports took part in more than 70 competitions of the championship of universities in St Petersburg.

If we take the results for the last five years, the most striking performances were shown by the following teams:
  • in football (coach - associate professor I. S. Moskalenko) - winners of the St Petersburg Cup among universities in 2017; silver medalists of the St Petersburg Cup among men's teams of educational organizations of higher education in football season 2020; winners of the Cup of the Student Football League of St Petersburg in football in the highest league in 2020 (boys); silver medalists of the St Petersburg Student Football League Cup in mini-football 2020 (boys);
  • in fencing (team leader - Prof. A.V. Karavan): silver medalists of the university championship in 2016, 2017 and 2018;
  • in hockey (team leader - Prof. A. V. Karavan): silver medalists of the championship of universities in St Petersburg, winners of the student hockey league in 2017, 2018 and 2019;
  • in combat sambo (coach - S. M. Til): winners of the university championship in 2017, prize-winners in 2018 and 2019;
  • in snowboarding (team leader - N. S. Lesheva): winners of the championship of universities in 2018, prize-winners in 2017;
  • in billiards (coach - Prof. K. N. Dementiev): winners of the championship of universities in 2018, prize-winners in 2017 and 2020;
  • in motor sports (coach - V. V. Serbin): for 15 years, the university team has become the champion and prize-winner of various student city competitions;
  • in athletics (coach - O. A. Safonova) - winners of the traditional track and field relay race of the Admiralteisky district, dedicated to Victory Day, 2019, its winners in 2018 and 2021;
  • in cheerleading (coach - N. S. Lesheva): winners of the championship of universities of St Petersburg in 2016 and 2017, its champions in 2020

More than 20 national teams in various sports have become winners and prize-winners of the championship of St Petersburg universities and other student and city competitions, and honorably support the traditions laid down by our predecessors.

In 2022/2023 academic year the main attention in sports work was paid to promoting a healthy lifestyle, attracting students to classes in various sports sections.

  • calisthenics (coach - S. M. Oshurkova);
  • power lifting (coach - E. A. Bavykin);
  • arm-wrestling (coach - E. A. Bavykin);
  • chess (coach - O. A. Safonova).
