The Department of Forensics was established on 1 September, 2014. Its main goal was and remains the training of future experts capable of effectively countering criminal and other illegal activities.
Our department is distinguished by its unique academic staff. Our faculty includes not only academics but also practicing professionals with extensive experience in forensic science, criminalistics, and law enforcement. This allows us to provide students with not only theoretical knowledge but also relevant practical skills.
The department is headed by PhD of Juridical Sciences, Associate Professor Dmitry Valerievich Ivanov, known for his scientific works on information law and forensic activities.
At the forefront of the department's creation and development was Valery Borisovich Kharchenko, a practicing forensic expert and leading state forensic expert at the Northwestern Center for Forensic Examinations of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation (1998–2010), DSc in Engineering. Today, he continues to share his invaluable experience as a professor, teaching key disciplines such as forensic theory and computer technology in forensic work, among others.
Another outstanding expert, Aleksandr Sergeyevich Kopanev, a qualified forensic lawyer, recently joined our department. He is the author of over 65 scientific papers and a patent, and has extensive practical experience. Aleksandr Sergeyevich teaches such important disciplines as traceology and forensic science, helping students master the most modern forensic techniques.
Thus, the SPbGASU Department of Forensics successfully combines the extensive experience of its founders with a modern approach, training a new generation of qualified experts.
