In accordance with the Agreement between the Russian Science Foundation and the Government of St Petersburg on Cooperation in Support of Fundamental and Exploratory Scientific Research dated November 19, 2021, the Russian Science Foundation has announced a pilot regional competition for projects by young researchers under 39 years of age as part of the open public competition for grants from the Russian Science Foundation for the event "Conducting Fundamental and Exploratory Scientific Research by Small Individual Research Groups" (regional competition). Projects by young researchers under 39 years of age, implemented at Russian scientific organizations and Russian higher education institutions located in St Petersburg, including those with branches in St Petersburg, are eligible to participate.
The Foundation's grants are allocated for the implementation in 2027–2029 of projects by research teams conducting exploratory scientific research with the aim of obtaining scientific and technical products in the interests of a qualified customer and achieving practical results with specific technical and technological characteristics in accordance with the technological proposal.
Projects submitted by young researchers under 39 years of age to the pilot regional competition must comply with the RSF competition documentation for the regional competition and the following application terms and conditions: projects submitted by young researchers under 39 years of age to the pilot regional competition must comply with the list of objectives of the priority research areas supported by St Petersburg in accordance with the Agreement between the Russian Science Foundation and the Government of St Petersburg on cooperation in supporting fundamental scientific research and exploratory scientific research dated November 19, 2021 (hereinafter referred to as the list of objectives); the total number of members of the research team is from two to four people; the project manager must have a candidate and/or doctoral degree; the proportion of members of the research team under 39 years of age (inclusive) in the total number of members of the research team is 100%; the project implementation period is two years.
The amount of financial support for each project ranges from 2 to 25 million rubles per year.
In addition to submitting an application to the Russian Science Foundation (RSF), applicants for the St Petersburg competition must submit an application to the St Petersburg State Autonomous Institution "Foundation for the Support of Scientific, Scientific-Technical, and Innovative Activities."
An application to the Foundation (in addition to an application to the Russian Science Foundation) is submitted through The Unified Portal of Science and Higher (Professional) Education of St Petersburg (a registration link appears after authorization) in the form of an electronic image of the application submitted to the Russian Science Foundation.
