An exhibition of the artist Konstantin Konstantinov opened in the SPbGASU library

At the department of scientific and technical literature of the SPbGASU library, an exhibition of the artist Konstantin Konstantinov was opened. It presents the works included in the “Family Album” and “Above the City” series.

At the opening of the exhibition

At the grand opening, the head of the library, Irina German, thanked the master for the fact that the SPbGASU library was chosen for the exhibition venue: this is important for the university, since the university seeks to create conditions for introducing students to the world of art.

Konstantin Konstantinov was born in 1968 in Leningrad. He graduated from I.E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Since 2001, he’s been a leading specialist in scientific and educational activities of the State Russian Museum. The artist’s works are in museums’ and private collections in Russia and abroad.

Konstantin Konstantinov adheres to thematic series, sequentially revealing a particular topic. The SPbGASU exhibition presents selected works made in different periods of his career.

- “You can see here two series of works. The first is the “Family Album”. This topic is very dear to me since the first time I happened to visit the village where my wife is from. There are wonderful people there, rich nature, and most importantly, that in the remote places you can feel the spirit of real Russia. I consider those places my homeland, although I was born in Leningrad. The second series is dedicated to St. Petersburg; there are only a few works in it, but I plan to continue it. Many thanks to the library for the hospitality,” said the artist.{gallery name="Выставка Константинов 022020"}

The series “Above the City”, according to the author, is a reflection on the fate of St. Petersburg, an attempt to rise above the daily bustle and create a timeless image of his native city. These pencil drawings are distinguished by a complex geometry of spatial forms, a play of shadow and light.

- “Konstantin tries to comprehend the man, the world arund, the environment. In his reverent attitude to the subject of the image, he continues the best traditions of Russian art,” noted Alexander Polozov, Honored Artist of Russia.

- “For twenty years, Konstantin Konstantinov has been a leading specialist at the State Russian Museum. We are very glad that at the same time he does not leave his creativity distinguished by mastership and original style,” said Svetlana Pogadayeva, senior specialist in scientific and educational work of the Russian Museum.

The exhibition will be open till March 15 at the department of scientific literature of the SPbGASU library (room 217). Opening hours: on Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm, on Friday, from 10 am to 5 pm.
