Evgeny Khegai, an SPbGASU fourth-year PhD student, reached the semi-finals of the X All-Russian Engineering Competition with a project under the working title “Development of a theoretical model of deformation of heavy reinforced cement and its implementation in the calculation of high-pressure vessels.” In the ranking of educational organizations of higher education based on the results of the qualifying stage of SPbGASU, it occupies 67th position out of 247.

Evgeny Olegovich will continue participating in the intellectual competition at the industry platform of the Rosatom State Corporation in the direction “Construction of hydraulic engineering and energy facilities”.

“There is such a material - heavy reinforced cement. It is a fine-grained concrete with a high content of small-diameter reinforcement. My idea is to use this material in the construction of structures for the biological protection of nuclear reactors, as well as nuclear reactor vessels. To do this, it is necessary to calculate the stress-strain state of such structures at those moments when they are subjected to internal pressure and internal temperature effects,” shared Evgeny Khegai.

According to the PhD student, modern nuclear reactors are made of steel or prestressed concrete. Stressed reinforced concrete is a reliable material with high crack resistance, but it is very expensive and labor-intensive. Non-prestressed reinforced concrete has similar properties, but is more affordable.

Evgeny Khegai is writing a dissertation on the topic of non-prestressed reinforced concrete. His scientific supervisor is Associate Professor at the Department of Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Constructions Vladimir Popov, who replaced another mentor - a world-famous scientist, Professor Valery Morozov.

In the semi-finals, participants will continue to work on projects under the guidance of experts, attend trainings and master classes, lectures and seminars. The results of the semi-finals will be announced on 26 April. Those who successfully defend their projects will take part in the final stage of the competition in Moscow in June 2024.

The winners will be supported by the industrial partners of the competition - Rosatom State Corporation, Roscosmos State Corporation, Rostec State Corporation, Russian Helicopters JSC, RusHydro PJSC, Russian Railways JSC, United Shipbuilding Corporation JSC, United Aircraft Corporation PJSC etc. In addition to diplomas, certificates and gifts, they will have an advantage when entering the next level of education.

  • We wish Evgeny Khegai success!

The All-Russian Engineering Competition has been held since 2014 in accordance with the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation. Its organizer is the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, the operator is the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.

The competition is designed to develop the personnel potential of high-tech industries, attract young people to solving promising production, technical, economic problems that are of strategic importance for the development of Russian industry (real sector of the economy), improve the quality of engineering education through the formation of tools for interaction between engineering educational organizations and high-tech enterprises of the real sector of the economy.
