Comfort, safety and environmental friendliness: SPbGASU students have developed the concept of comfort zones for the cities of the Leningrad Region

SPbGASU students continue to create design projects for the improvement of settlements in the Leningrad Region. At the Department of Architectural Design, they have prepared several new concepts. The work was carried out by students of the second, third and fifth grades under the guidance of associate professor Svetlana Danilova.

Design project of Bogdanov Square in Gatchina

The scope of projects includes public spaces in the cities of Tosno, Vsevolozhsk, Gatchina, and Vyborg and in the Falileyevsky Rural Settlement. The projects maid interested the Committee on Housing and Communal Services of the Leningrad Region and, according to its information, might be implemented in the future.

GATCHINA: BOGDANOV SQUARE: A NEW ATTRACTION

The students proposed a green walking area for the Gatchina Square of Stanislav Bogdanov.

They proposed to divide the territory into zones of trees and shrubs, venues for public events with shopping pavilions, bike paths and parking lots, an amphitheater, and sites for quiet rest.

“This will create a barrier-free, all-weather, multi-functional and attractive environment, a center of desirability for citizens,” said Svetlana Danilova.

The design provides for buffer landscaping along nearby streets, which should protect vacationers from city noise. For lighting, students suggest installing lanterns of greater and lesser heights and light sources built in into the pavement.

“In winter, when it darkens early, this should add to public safety,” the project lead explained.

VYBORG: PUBLIC SPACE IN THE HISTORICAL PART OF THE CITY

Vyborg is featured by a huge number of architectural monuments: some of those are several hundred years old; also, the terrain where the city is located is quite complex. Therefore, students sought to take into account all special features of the historical environment embodying modern trends in landscape architecture.

An ideal object for such an approach was the ancient square on Sadovaya Street.

The authors of the project proposed to transform the square into a space for relaxation.{gallery name="Выборг Данилова проект 022020"}

The idea was to preserve the existing landscaping, adding to it additional plantings, which would vary in density and color accents. This will provide for zoning of the territory, allocating spaces for a quiet rest like reading in the shade of trees or for picnics; also, a green amphitheater in front of the stage for festive events will be built. The amphitheater is meant to be equipped using a natural terrain. In addition, bike lanes and a dog walking area will appear in the park.

FALILEYEVO: A QUALITATIVELY NEW RURAL ENVIRONMENT

The students proposed an interesting approach to the arrangement of public space for the village of Falileyevo, Kingisepp District, Leningrad Region. Here, SPbGASU students want to show what a rural environment can be with the use of modern approaches.

According to the students, the image of a modern village can be based on the balance of natural areas (green areas), recreation areas (including access to water), gaming areas, a promenade and territory for communication around a hearth located in the open.

“Such an environment is aesthetic, comfortable and environmentally friendly,” said project curator Svetlana Danilova.

Last year, SPbGASU students took part in the development of a project for the village of Villosi in the Lomonosov district, and it is already being implemented.
