Educational Publications by SPbGASU Professors are among the Best in Russia
The Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences highly appreciated the set of educational and methodical literature by the team of authors consisting of Rashid Mangushev, Igor Sakharov, Ivan Dyakonov, Sergey Lanko, Vladimir Konyushkov, Anatoly Osokin and awarded it a silver medal in the Competition for the best scientific and creative works in the field of architecture, urban planning and construction.
Award ceremony: Anatoly Osokin, Igor Sakharov, RAACS President Dmitry Shvidkovsky and
Rashid Mangushev
Diplomas and medal of the competition
The team was among the winners in the nomination "Best educational publication in the field of construction sciences" for a set of textbooks and study guides on soil mechanics, underground structures, foundation engineering for training of bachelors, masters and specialists in construction specialties.
The set submitted for the competition included two textbooks: the works by Rashid Mangushev and Igor Sakharov "Foundation engineering: a textbook for bachelors of civil engineering and specialists in the field of "Construction of unique buildings and structures"", and "Soil mechanics: a textbook for bachelors of civil engineering and specialists in the field of "Construction of unique buildings and structures"", as well as the study guide by the group of authors "Designing bases, foundations and underground structures".
“The award proves the high level of educational and methodical work of our department. In recent years, technical science has made significant progress in the field of computational justification, including the use of digitalization, when numerical calculation methods are used to model and analyze a practical situation. New textbooks and the study guide, highly rated by the RAACS, are based on the current demands from geotechnical practice. Thus, the study guide examines issues related to monitoring foundations and underground parts of buildings, experience in the construction of high-rise buildings and deep pits, and analysis of emergency cases. It includes classical methods and calculations, approaches to the assessment of load-bearing foundations, the stability of pit fencing, calculations of the deformation of foundation structures, ”said Anatoly Osokin, head of the department of geotechnics of the SPbGASU faculty of civil engineering.
He also noted that the educational and methodological base includes the study of the processes of practical implementation of the studied materials. This allows to organize the learning process in accordance with market needs and adapt students to the calculation methods, design solutions and geotechnical technologies that they encounter in practice.

“In recent years, a set of such textbooks has been developed, so it is appropriate to talk about innovative methods, computational justification, the possibility of using various scientific theories about the deformation and stability of the soil and its behavior under certain conditions. Without this, it is impossible to develop the industry and explore the underground depths, so our textbooks and study guides are especially relevant,” Anatoly Osokin emphasized.
