Engineering parallels: from a higher education institution to an object of “TSEMSIS” LLC

Production of building materials is a rather complex and difficult process including a number of complex operations, including selection of an appropriate production technology, raw materials, creation of necessary conditions of goods production and storage, development of logistics schemes and compliance with regulations at all stages. Surely, high productivity support is an important factor as at a site there should be no down-time periods. Meeting all requirements and all minor details in production is a formula for success of any enterprise producing building materials! “TSEMSIS” factory is a good example of the listed above principles.

This month students of the third course of specialty Construction of unique buildings and structures had a wonderful chance to visit the largest in Saint Petersburg factory producing vibration pressed goods. On Saturday, April 13, 2015 technical director of “TSEMSIS” company Aleksey Barmin and quality director Elena Maslova held an excursion aimed at acquainting students with production technology of vibration pressed goods: paving flag, curb stone, and other elements used for road building and house building.

Students watched the way concrete aggregates were graded by using modern equipment (unique equipment in our city), storage and supply of raw materials. They could also estimate the process of producing flags.

Tower silos, pigment pumps, mixing plants, line of concrete handling, vibration press, endless belt conveyors, a big number of matrix for goods – these are just a few devices and instruments used at the factory. Aleksey Barmin was glad to tell students about peculiarities of the factory’s functioning in warm and cold weather, walked students about the factory and showed the production process from the beginning to the end. Most interesting for students was the production shop, where goods were formed. Power of technological equipment made a great impression on each student, as each could feel it. Students were shocked by the speed of conveyor functioning – 0.9 cub. m. of pavement bricks in 12 seconds! Camera of normal cement hardening also provoked much interest of students – 10 meters high shelf stands full of ready products and loaders of the same height.

At the end of the excursion students visited students were taken to the room of automated production monitoring and were told about the 2-shift mode of working at the factory. Our students also visited the ready stock yard – thousands of safety packed shelf stands shocked each student.

Aleksey Barmin also explained the difference between one-layer and two-layer pressing and told how the quality of produced goods was controlled. We should remind that this is the factory which supplies materials to the sea port “Bronka’ which is under construction now. Order of a million of square meters of pavement cover has been almost finished. As a principal element they had chosen high durability trefoil stone of high shear load accommodation.

As a memento there was taken a photo and students thanked specialists of “TSEMSIS” company for an interesting excursion.
