Graduates of the Department of Construction Technology come up with innovative ideas

Defenses of graduation qualification papers are in high gear at SPbGASU. Bachelor’s, Specialist’s and Master’s degree students present to attestation commissions innovative developments that may very soon turn into realities of the construction industry.

Daniil Nosov worked on the theme of the “Construction of a ‘green’ building in a multifunctional complex” (group 1-P-4; Director of the Diploma — professor of the Department of Construction Technology Andrei N. Yegorov)

“The word combination ‘green technologies’ is still put into quotation marks. However, this is an essential, sought-after theme. It embraces environmentally clean materials, greenery, ballasted roofs, ventilation of new generation, etc.,” D. Nosov said.

The design presents an H-shaped building with a ballasted roof. Public and business areas occupy the three lower floors, while the residential area is placed on the upper floors.

The author of the design project believes that solar panels are not suitable for St. Petersburg. However, greenery should be actively used in our city.

“Take a look at the outskirts. Parnas, Devyatkino: these are true stone jungles. Community landscapes would’ve made all the difference in the world and significantly improved living in these districts. We should remember that a smart city is, first of all, a comfortable for living city, which is provided by implementation of advanced technologies. SPbGASU is actively engaged in these matters,” D. Nosov shared his ideas.

Vladimir Kutumov examined the theme of vertical printing of floor structural systems (group 2-P-4; Director of the Diploma — Head of the Construction Technology Department Anton N. Gaido).

3D printers, installed along the axes of a building, will be printing out columns and floor structures effecting the pivot from vertical to horizontal position using revolute joints.

This technology presently is non-existent on the construction market. However, it would have allowed to save 29% on the rent of cast formwork and 26% on the rent of concrete pumps, in addition to 200% saving on the rent of a tower crane. As a whole, construction efficiency will increase by 30% in the case of using this technology.

“If we are speaking about the technical and economic performance, this technology allows to erect the frame of a reinforced concrete building with the rate of one floor per day. This is a perfect index,” V. Kutumov is sure.

The graduate's plans are to enroll in the Master’s degree program and continue developing this promising topic, which may form the basis of his Master’s degree thesis. When asked to give a piece of advice to those students whose defenses are still ahead, V. Kutumov replied, “Do not be afraid, keep confident, know your job, and believe in your business. And then everything will work out!”
