On June 17, 2015 in the Assembly hall of the Education centre of Leningrad naval base of the Baltic naval forces there took place the First meeting of the Board of trustees of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Pardoning”. This church was erected in 1888-1898 upon the request of the Admiralty by a graduate of the Institute of civil engineers (currently Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering), famous architect of Russia Vasily A. Kosiakov.

During the official part of the meeting participants took a tour over the Church, took part in consecration of the temporary oratory and meeting of the Board of trustees.

 At the meeting there were members of the Board of trustees, directors of large companies and other honorary guests, including representatives of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering. Supervisor of the meeting was First vice-chairperson of the State Duma, chairperson of the Board of trustees of the Church of Icon of the Mother of God “Pardoning” A.D. Zhukov.

Today the Church of Icon of the Mother of God “Pardoning” is recognized as a federal object of cultural heritage and extremely needs repair and restoration. Since 1932 the building of the Church belonged to the Learning detachment of submarine navigation. Church decoration did not survive, around the church there were erected buildings which have nothing common to the church. At the church’s territory there is still an education complex “Tower” and the circulation control office of the Education centre of Leningrad naval base of the Baltic naval forces, which serves as an entrance. Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation is ready to devote funds to church restoration. However in order to restore the Church and disassemble the Education complex charity funds are required.

Participants of the Board of trustees paid particular attention to the importance and scope of works to be done. “The work we have started is really a noble cause”, - expressed the public opinion Alexander D. Zhukov.

The Board of trustees made a number of solutions, referring the schedule of repair and restoration works, release of property belonging to the Ministry of defense, and targets of the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation in Church restoration. All these solutions are aimed at making the Church of Icon of the Mother of God “Pardoning” a decoration of the city in the nearest future and one of the centres of spiritual life of church people.
