International Museum Day
International Museum Day is celebrated on May 18th. The holiday was established in 1977 at the 11th global conference of the International Council of Museums, held in the USSR. This international organization, which Russia is a member of, has existed since 1946.
At the St Petersburg Brick History Museum, SPbGASU
Traditionally, the opening of new exhibitions, author's excursions, lectures, museum and theater performances, scientific readings, and the Night of Museums festival are timed to coincide with the holiday.
Night of Museums usually takes place on the weekend closest to May 18th. Many cultural institutions open their doors on the night from Saturday to Sunday for free.
Every year the holiday has its own theme. The Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Russia) announces that in 2022 the theme of the holiday is “The Power of Museums”.
The St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering has the University History Museum and the St Petersburg Brick History Museum, which are happy to receive visitors.
