“It all sets:” SPbGASU students have presented their design projects again

Once again, SPbGASU students presented their design projects for the restoration of cultural heritage of the Leningrad region. This time, the presentations were held at the sessions of the Commission for Historical, Cultural and Spiritual Heritage, and Tourism Development of the Civil Chamber of the Leningrad Region.

SPbGASU students presented their design projects at the sessions of the Commission for Historical, Cultural and Spiritual Heritage, and Tourism Development of the Civil Chamber of the Leningrad Region.

The sessions were organized “on the ground”: on August 22, 2019, in Tosno and on August 23, 2019, in New Ladoga. Heads of administrations, representatives of committees and the Civil Chamber of the Leningrad Region showed much interest in the SPbGASU students’ proposals.

This interest is due to the high professional level of the designs. However, it is not only a matter of professionalism: young authors put their hearts and souls into their work, explore the essence of the matter, and conscientiously study history and present-day legislation. Our students are great. They work hard. There are disputable points in their concepts, but this can be entirely modified for a working drawing. That’s why everything is moving forward

Associate Professor of the SPbGASU Department of Architectural
and Urban Development Heritage

What were the projects presented at the sessions of the Commission about?

First-grade Master’s degree student Daria Butko created the concept of restoration and adaptation of the railway hospital complex in the village of Ulyanovka, Tosnensky District. The author proposed to build a sanatorium, adapting the complex to a therapeutic function close to its lost one, without making fundamental changes to the historical layout. Since the facility is located along the Oktyabrskaya Railway, noise protection measures are present. The design also provides for the upgrading of nearby territories and, as a result, creation of an integrated urban development structure.

First-grade Master’s degree student Alexey Mityaev, Julia Pravotorova and Inna Volkova worked on the restoration of the historical center of Novaya Ladoga. The projects harvested a stormy positive reaction from local residents and government officials. There was a proposal to send projects for the competition to the Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Government of St. Petersburg, since they have every chance for winning. There also is an idea to organize an exhibition of students’ works of the previous years.
