On 12 April, SPbGASU summed up the results of the final stages of student Olympiads in the fields of study 08.03.01, 08.04.01 Civil engineering, profile “Industrial and civil construction”, specialty 08.05.01 Construction of unique buildings and structures.

Sergey Mikhailov, SPbGASU Vice-Rector for Educational Activity, thanked the organizers, partners, and participants of the Olympiad. Addressing the students, he emphasized that competitions help determine vectors of professional and personal growth: “One of the theses of the Olympiad movement was formulated in ancient times: the main thing is not victory, but participation. Victories and prizes are important, but the most important thing is the desire for self-development.”

The winners were greeted by Alina Sitova, chief DC specialist at Metropolis company, one of the partners of the competition. According to her, the company acts as a partner and organizer of many educational programs in order to increase the prestige of the engineering profession and attract as many smart and enthusiastic children as possible.

For the first time, the Olympiad program included the “Information Modeling Technology” section as an additional task for master’s students. According to Denis Nizhegorodtsev, director of the LDBIM Training Center, the Olympiad participants analyzed the information model of a capital construction project in the IFC format (this is an open-specification data format designed to simplify interaction in the construction industry). The task was to fulfill the role of TIM coordinator and record the maximum number of errors in the model, which were previously included there by the developers of the task - SPbGASU teachers and employees of the St Petersburg State Autonomous Institution "Center for State Expertise".

First place in the TIM section was won by Evgeny Klekovkin, a student at Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University. Evgeniy expects that competition tasks will continue to be modified in the future to meet modern requirements.

Aleksandr Korkishko, head of the basic department of Gazprom Neft at the Tyumen Industrial University, and Vladimir Inozemtsev, SPbGASU student (third place in the specialty 08.05.01)

Yulia Kislyakova, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Kalashnikov Izhevsk State Technical University, and a LISI (SPbGASU) graduate of 1986, is very grateful to the university for the preparation and for the opportunity to transfer knowledge to her students. Yulia Gennadievna was very pleased to visit her native walls.

Andrey Spiridonov from the Penza State University of Architecture and Construction did not manage to distinguish himself, but he is firmly confident in his future successes. Andrey especially remembered the old books on the art of construction from the SPbGASU scientific and technical library. Thanks to the Olympiad, the student understood in which direction he needed to develop further.

“The participants filled out a feedback form in which they assessed the organization of the event and left their wishes. The majority of respondents (85%) noted high satisfaction with the Olympiad and expressed their readiness to take part in similar events in the future. 65% of respondents described the tasks at the Olympiad as difficult but interesting, 10% completed the tasks easily, despite their complexity. In general, the participants had good impressions of the Olympiad,” said Olga Balashova, head of the SPbGASU Division for Analytical Research and Development Projects Management.

The competition was held by decision of the board of the International Public Organization for the Promotion of Construction Education (DIA) and the Presidium of the Federal Educational and Methodological Association (FUMO) in the higher education system for an enlarged group of specialties and fields of study (UGSN) 08.00.00 Construction technique and technology. Partnership support was provided by Metropolis company and the St Petersburg State Autonomous Institution “Center for State Expertise”.
