On 28 May, the results of the "Spatial Development Concept for Municipalities" competition, held by the Leningrad Region Urban Development Policy Committee, were announced. The competition's goal was to find architectural and design solutions for public spaces in the region. The best concepts could become the basis for real projects in cities and rural communities.
This year, the competition received 36 entries from professional architects, designers, artists, creative teams, architectural firms, scientific and expert organizations, and students from specialized universities across three categories: a wooden pavilion, a 3D-printed pavilion, and a pavilion made of wicker and reed.
The creative team from Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering won first place in the "Concept of a Reciprocal Wooden Pavilion" category with their project "Ves" (arch. "Wich"). The team included Ekaterina Zherekhova, Yulia Beloborodova, and Alena Kozlova.
A reciprocal structure is a quickly erected structure made of beams or logs that are laid in a circle and supported by one another. Each component simultaneously supports the next and is itself supported by another, allowing it to be spanned without internal supports.
This is not the first time our students have participated in a competition like this, which allows participants to quickly move from an idea to a real object.
Thus, previously our university won the regional Urban Development Committee's competition for a parklet design — a compact recreation area in the city. The project is already being implemented in the region and was recognized at the prestigious Golden Trezzini architectural competition as the best small architectural form project in a public space.
Congratulations on your victory and wishes of further creative success!
