On February, 21 in Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering there took place the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition “Mansion houses of Lithuania” by Diana Garbachiauskene and Leonas Garbachiauskas. The main purpose of the exhibition is to introduce Saint Petersburg citizens to the checkered architectural past of the Lithuanian mansion houses by means of the professionally shot and aesthetically attractive pictures

The exhibition was opened by the Counsel General of Lithuania in Saint Petersburg Aushra Semashkene, vice-rector for academic activity of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering Viktor B. Zverev and dean of the faculty of architecture Sergey V. Sementsov.

“The most remarkable about the mansion houses is that most of them depicted in the pictures are non-state and are of private property, - said Mrs. Semashkene. – Regenerating the rights of possession owners need to restore the mansions. The state authorities maintain constant control and impose large penalties for breaking the obligatory requirements. This encourages owners to renovate the buildings themselves and the nearby territories, parks creating the ensemble as a whole”.
