23 June, 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Construction Management at SPbGASU.
The history of the department began after the division in 1976 of the Department of Construction Operations into the Department of Construction Production Technology and the Department of Organization, Planning and Management of Construction (OPUS) – now the Department of Construction Management.
The department's main focus in teaching and learning was construction management and automated construction management systems. The educational process was refined, aimed at shifting the OPUS discipline from a descriptive to a computational one. The development of a theoretical approach led to the formation of the St Petersburg school of flow-based work organization.
The department staffThe department's faculty members are improving the quality management system in construction using optimization methods for calculating construction schedules, assessing the quality of construction management projects, and conducting technical and economic assessments of construction work. The department conducts research into the development of organizational management frameworks and multi-level construction scheduling for facilities and complexes. The department actively collaborates with leading construction and design organizations, participates in solving organizational and technological problems, and contributes to the development of regulatory and technical documentation.
The department developed projects for the production of work on many technologically complex facilities, including the ski jumps of the Olympic sports complex in Sochi, the facilities of the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant-2, the St Petersburg administrative and public-business complex "Nevskaya Ratusha", "Lakhta Center" and "Gazprom Arena".
The department's faculty members actively participate in forensic examinations, including those commissioned by the Investigative Committee.
The department is actively involved in publishing monographs, educational and scientific publications, and holds annual scientific and technical conferences.
The department's students regularly become winners and prize-winners of Olympiads and competitions for final qualifying works, and the All-Russian TIM-Championship of St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
Currently, the department actively combines the educational process with scientific and practical developments in the field of scheduling, 4D modeling, and the application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the field of construction management.
We congratulate our colleagues and wish them continued success in educating new generations of engineers and in their scientific endeavors!
