The Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering places special emphasis on integrating theoretical education with practical training for future engineers. One striking example of this approach is the successful internship of a student from the Department of Transport Systems and Road and Bridge Construction (TS&RBC) in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.

Fifth-year student majoring in "Construction of Unique Buildings and Structures" (profile "Bridges") Egor Averin, under the supervision of senior lecturer at the Department of TS&RBC Dmitry Yaroshutin, had the opportunity to apply the acquired knowledge in practice, participating in the inspection of bridge structures in difficult mountain conditions.

The internship, organized jointly with OOO "TsKM", allowed the future engineer to complete a range of tasks that meet modern industry requirements: measurements of key structural elements and a geodetic survey of the roadway, instrumental measurements to determine the strength of superstructure elements and subsequent load-bearing capacity assessments, and the creation of a 3D digital model of the bridge structure using terrestrial laser scanning technology.

Practical work provided an opportunity not only to consolidate theoretical knowledge, but also to understand the relationship between design solutions and the features of the terrain, climate, and operation of structures in mountainous areas.

Egor Averin noted the significant value of the training he received at the Department of TS&RBC: "During my two years of study at the department, I gained a fundamental basis, without which it would have been difficult to complete the assigned tasks. It was especially valuable that the internship coincided with the completion of the course "Inspection and Testing of Bridge Structures." This allowed me to immediately apply the knowledge I gained in real-world situations and significantly increased my professional confidence."

According to the student, during the internship, he also developed skills in working in non-standard conditions, gained experience interacting with a multinational community, and assessed the impact of sociocultural factors on engineering activities—essential competencies for a modern professional.

Dmitry Yaroshutin notes that Egor Averin's experience clearly demonstrates the key advantages of the educational process at SPbGASU. These include: a practical focus – students have the opportunity to work on real-world projects while still studying, which increases their competitiveness in the labor market; modern technologies – cutting-edge methods, such as terrestrial laser scanning and 3D modeling, are used in the educational process and during internships; personalized support – experienced instructors individually mentor students at all stages of their internship, providing methodological and professional support; program flexibility – courses are synchronized with internship opportunities, allowing for the most effective use of acquired knowledge; and the geography of internships – the university offers students the opportunity to complete internships in various regions of the country, expanding their professional horizons.

SPbGASU continues to develop its system of practical training for students, strengthening ties with industry partners and creating new opportunities for the professional growth of future engineers.
