Presentation of scientific study groups of the Civil Engineering Faculty at SPbGASU

In order to inform students about all the possibilities of scientific associations, on December 17, a presentation of scientific study groups operating at the faculty of civil engineering was organized by the SPbGASU Student Scientific Society.

Listeners of the presentation of scientific study groups

The head of the department of Construction Technology Anton N. Gaido spoke about the scientific study groups of his department. Among the topics studied by their participants, he mentioned the use of 3D printers, the development of “green” technologies in the construction of buildings in the “smart city” system, as well as the development of vibration technologies for the construction of foundations and shoring of excavations, and about the improvement of technologies for prefabricated and monolithic housing construction. In addition, the members of the scientific study groups are engaged in research on quick-mounting buildings based on modular-frame structures, the constructions made of wooden elements in the Far North, and the development of technological documentation for the enabling works.

At the presentation of the scientific study groups

Associate Professor of the Department of Geotechnics Sergey V. Lanko leads two scientific study groups: “3D-modeling and printing” and “Geotechnical research and instrument design.” According to him, participation in scientific groups brings students not only theoretical, but also applied benefits: they can create three-dimensional models of their developments and print them out on a university printer. Student groups develop and assemble instruments and laboratory equipment used for geotechnical research.

Assistant professor at the Department of Metal and Wooden Structures Denis V. Nizhegorodtsev presented the scientific study group of “Designing buildings and structures with the use of information modeling technologies” and spoke about his experience in this area. From his report, students learned about the process of scanning an existing task with the subsequent creation of its 3D model. The uniqueness of the model is that it simultaneously reflects the design of the building itself and all its communications, along with a detailed description of other components.

Bachelor’s degree student Maxim V. Kozlov presented the scientific study group of the Department of Technology of Building Materials and Metrology, namely, “Safety and Quality Systems at the Enterprises of the Construction Industry”. Using his own experience as an example, he spoke about the opportunities that open up for students who decided to engage in scientific activities, and demonstrated the importance of the research conducted by members of the scientific study group.

At the end of the presentations, speakers noted that it was only about some of the available areas of self-realization in the scientific field. All the reports presented aroused great interest among those who wanted to try their hand at science.

The main task of the SPbGASU scientific study groups is to help students in organizing their research activities. This applies, first of all, to the final qualification works of undergraduate and graduate students. Participation in the activities of the scientific study group helps students explore on the topic of future research, as well as find the teacher who would provide scientific guidance. In addition, the group is useful for those who plan to continue their studies in postgraduate school, who want to stay up to date with the current issues of a particular industry, and who are interested in sharing knowledge.
